It may be a sensory issue for him regarding his own nose and transferring the sensations on to your nose?? Rub his nose & play with it like he does yours and see if you notice a difference..could he be having allergies?
LOL Shelley ... it doesn't appear to be allergy related ... just purely nose fixation. It's really odd!
He will turn his head from side to side and push my nose into his ear! I just don't get it.
Bumping back up ... just for the heck of it!
Well, what if it's just a comfort thing for him? My middle son (autistic) has always had a thing for my hair--holding it, twisting it in his fingers, clinging to it; for a whole year he couldn't get to sleep without entwining his fingers in my hair. He is still fascinated with it. He will try to take clips out of it or put them into it, anything to be feeling it between his fingers.
This is really actually kind of funny, in a bizarre way. Nick is very focused on my nose. He points to my nose a lot, asks if it is my nose. He will ask if he can "take it off", and attempt to put him fingers in my nostrils and pull! He will put his open mouth completely over my nose and blow on it! He will grab my head and pull my nose into his ear.
I don't know what to make of this! It's been going on for several months now. When I ask him a question that he can't/won't answer (ie his teacher told me he is calling a schoolmate by name ... Jacob. I tried to ask him about Jacob), he will go right back to talking about my nose!
I don't know if any of you guys can relate to this, but does anyone have any insight into why he does this?
By the way, I don't have a large or unusual nose ... just a very small upturned basic nose ... LOL!
Well, my son had a tactile stim on my chin for a few years, needed to hold it when tired or stressed. Then he switched to ears. He didn't talk about it, though. With mine it eyes. He is nonverbal so he doesn't talk about it though. With my son, he would "beep" any nose that was available for it. He would touch anyone's nose at the tip, with his fingertip and say "beep" for as long as you would let him do it. After about 6 months of school, he finally stopped doing it to others. They got him to stop by telling him it was inappropriate to touch other peoples noses. It had been cute when he was 1 y/o, but at 3y/o it was just annoying after 2 years of it. I think it was his way of getting our attention.Since he likes your nose in his ear, it could be that he likes the sound/feel of breath in his ear. Does he like it when you whisper or blow in his ear?
"By a nose" could have come from any cartoon that involves a race -- "and Donald Duck wins by a nose!"
My eldest had a thing for chins, and then ears. Never noses, though.
Nicky turns his head so that my nose is in his ear. He kisses me nose HARD all the time. He tries to remove my nose ... LOL! It's just funny that I found this post from quite a long time ago and this is one thing he hasn't gotten past. His little quirks have changed over time, but not this one.
My son isn't obsessed with noses, but he LUVs kisses and getting really close to your face and breathing, its kinda freaky sometimes. He will ask for another kiss and another etc. Just like you Sharon, hes soo innocent at this age of 7 1/2 its nice sometimes.
My son is obessed with his own nose, and anything to do with it. He use to pull the hair out until I husband showed him the electic nose hair trimmer.. Wow! He thought that was the best thing ever, I am sure he has the cleanest nose in the area:)
My son has a nose issue too. He constanly rubs my nose with his, sometimes very passionatley, it freaks me out. He has at times covered my nose with his mouth too until I tell him, it's yucky. I think it goes back to the days when he was obsessed with the Lion King Movie. There are parts where both Mufassa and Sarabi used to rub Simba's nose (their son) to show their love and I'm sure that's why his does it. He rubs his nose and lifts his head to nuzzle my nose. He doesn't do this with anyone else but me and it's usually when he's feeling affectionate. If he was to watch the Lion King today, he would still say that Mufasa is his dad. He's 7 now and that was when he was about 3.
Sometimes he hads my head by the ears to make sure that don't pull away. He's a strange but ultra cute little man..... I love the innocence he still has.
I'm bumping this after doing a search for my own posts.
A whole year later, my son is still nose-obsessed!
I also have a nose obsessed little one! She loves to touch, squeeze, bend and pinch mine and dh's nose all the time - not to mention trying to put things up our nose!
Funny thing is when she started this six months ago she could barely talk and had only a handful of words but she would run up to you push on your nose and say "by a nose!" then laugh and run away only to do it again, and again, and again. I was exasperated because I have never been able to figure out where she heard that expression and why she used it ALL the time. I asked her teachers, therapists, bus driver, family - no one recalled ever saying it to her. But she picked it up somewhere and to this day she continues to "by a nose" every time she is near my face!
I think that's cute. Good thing you have a normal nose or you might grow a complex!
