We also are not on the diet and ds, 26 months, has started talking, he went from 7 words in July to 50- 60 words now, starting to combine, and he's using them functionally quite often. We will try the diet at some point, I need the rest of my family on board first, I'm working on that :)
We never changed diet and my son talks a lot. He is 3.4. He has a ways to go with his language and I would say he is a year behind, but other than language he does not have too many issues. We have just started work with a Naturopathic Doctor, who happens to be my neighbor. She tested my son and found that dairy was OK, but recommended we go organic and eliminate food coloring and other additives. So, like WIMom said if your kiddo doesn't have gut issues it's likley there is no need for the GFCF diet. My sons diet is pretty much like yours, except now we are getting his food from an organic grocery store. thank you everybody. i love to buy organic food for him. if i know what would help him i will sell my house and spend it for his tratment, but the problem is there is no organic pizza or maccronie cheese, and he is so picky with the test of food.
We never changed a thing with C's diet and he did start talking. He's continued to make consistent progress without any dietary interventions. We did take him off of dairy a month ago figuring what the heck, we should try it, and have seen no difference.
I know that diet has been a wonderful thing for many folks, but we've made consistent progress without it.
congratulation
that is perfect
We didn't change it completly, but we lucked out because Sebastian was eating a lot of pasta's at one time, but now he wont eat any pasta at all,and all of the sudden in the last few weeks he has bagun to say so many words including singing the ABC song for the very first time yesterday at school.
is there anyone who never changed their kids diet.not at all, even tho if kids only eat pizza and maccroni cheese and oatmeal, and the kid start to talk?
I do buy a lot of organic food for the kids. However, I haven't noticed that it made any difference with their language or behavior. We do it purely for the overall health benefits.
Jessica Seinfeld was on Oprah this last week promoting her new cookbook "Deceptively Delicious." Basicly, she was frustrated that her kids were limited in their diets and were refusing to eat their vegetables. She realized that if she pureed the vegetables, she could work them into the kids favorite recipes without the kids realizing it. Oprah's web site posted some recipes, and mac 'n cheese is one of them. Maybe trying something like this would be a way to get some new, healthier foods into your son's diet.

ETA - Lilli - They do make organic mac 'n cheese. I would recommend the Back to Nature or Annie's brand. There is also organic pizza, as well as cereal, potato chips, granola bars, crackers, cookies, pasta, speghetti sauce, soup...... Our local grocery store has a small organic section where I can find all of these things without having to go to Whole Foods.
Mason didn't talk until around his 3rd birthday...I don't recall even much babbling from him before then, like my other boys. Once he started it didn't take long for him to start putting 2 and 3 words together. We never did the diet.
Mason has always been a picky eater, limiting himself to a few specific foods, none that I would consider really healthy.
We have thought about the diet, but his neuro said right now wouldn't be the right time, because we are going through some med changes and we wouldn't know if it was the meds helping or the diet, and then might be stuck doing a lifelong diet and never knowing for sure if it was really working.
Nikolas' diet consist of pizza (has to be pizza hut), yogurt, ice cream, cookies, and campbells wedding soup, and apple juice, he won't drink milk. And that is it. And he has started to really talk. Andrew has started to talk too, he has a much more varied normal diet, but I have never done the GFC thing. Nikolas does have constipation issues, but I'm not sure its really gut issues. Long story won't get into it here. I do plan on starting the fish oil and I started a liquid very complete vitamin that has all these other things in it for the immune system. I heard about that deceptively delicious cookbook, I'm thinking of getting that.I have never used any diet. None of my kids really talked much before 2, but once they were in speech they began to improve. All 3 of my kids are picky eaters compared to their peers. My oldest has improved, but she is still pretty picky compared to others her age.
