I was wondering what your experiences have been with Super Nu-Thera. I'm thinking of starting my 3 year old son on it, but looking at the Kirkman Lab's website it says that SNT contains something like 11,250% of vitamin B-6 and that has me a bit nervous. That seems like WAY too much to give a three year old. Have you seen side effects from it?
Thanks!
Made my son hyper and irritable. I tried for a whole year at different doses but he just could not tolerate it for some reason. I had to pore that huge expensive bottle down the drain because there was no way any of us was going to drink the nasty stuff. We bought the chewable sample size for now and its been only a week so far. He likes the vitamins and have not had any problems giving them to him.
I have to tell you that we originally started with a brand called Brainchild Nutritionals and gave it to my son for about 3 months. We noticed his stimming was way under control as the weeks went by. The only problem we found was that because it was liquid I would put it into his drink and it would take a couple of tries just to get him to take half the recommended dosage. I was an all day process just to give him the full dosage.
So we then switched to Child Essence, and even though these were capsules I was still having the same problem trying to get him to drink it in his juice. The reason we stopped this brand was because all his stimming came back. Now this is our third try on mega vitamins and I hope we see the same results from before. Good luck, I hope you see positive results.
We used to give it to Jayden and it also made him very hyper. We started him on it very slowly and worked our way up.
We are now using a multivitamin called kangavites, they are yummy chewables and we get them from our local vitamin store.

we have seen positives w/ both kids. no issues w/ hyperactivityLiquid vitamins need to go under the tongue. We use then and chase them down with Grape juice. Gnc sells products from a Neuro dr. can't tell you the Brand name I just know the bottles are all blue/tops are all red. I read in a health book we all need 2 types of healthy fats for the correct balance so we do fish/epr. Both is soft jells. If you can't get them to do the oild rub at bottom of feet. This works I laerned about this at a oils class I attended. My son's been on it for a couple of weeks. We've seen zero hyperactivity with it. We did start with 1/4 of the dose and gradually went up to the full dose over the 2 weeks. So maybe that's why it didn't make him hyper.
Have we seen changes? Yes. His behavior is much improved, plus his language. He's had much less aggression and fewer tantrums, much more spontaneous speech. That is huge for him.
A couple of months ago, we started him on DMG and saw an immediate increase in speech and the Super Nu Thera seems to be adding to the DMG improvements. Before we started the DMG, my son had not improved in language for over a year and a half. I log his speech daily, and have the proof in black & white, so this isn't a placebo effect, I'm pretty sure.
If you're worried about safety of the high doses of B6, read the article at the Autism Research Institute about B6 safety, it will make you feel better. It's very safe!
Pamela,
I don't know if you're still interested in the Super Nu Thera, but wanted to add our experience in the past week with it.
Well, to be honest, the liquid doesn't taste good (we have the lemon-line flavor). My son was taking it well mixed with milk or juice before this past week. This past week we were out of orange juice and orange flavored breakfast drink, so I put it in his milk. I also put in lemonade a few times. Well, many times this week he wouldn't drink it.
I had thought the SNT had reduced the tantrums and aggression, but I wasn't sure because he'd also begun going to Head Start with a wonderful aide, so it's hard to tell which thing is having the good result.
Well, now I know for sure the SNT was helping because this week he's had many, many tantrums. The tantrums had almost disappeared before this week. Also, he's been much more aggressive. Just like he was before we started the SNT. Wednesday he pushed kids in his class repeatedly, he clawed my arm badly, he punched my jaw. Thursday he bit his aide 5 times. Her arms had 4 bruises on them. And he's never been a biter.
Thought I would add my 2 cents here. We used to have our DD on a "regular" children's chewable vitamin (Puritan's Pride Pre-Vites), so she was used to getting 100% of the B vitamins. Last Saturday we switched her to Super Nu Thera, starting at 1/4 tsp (1/4 the recommended dose for her weight, as the company recommends), and she was REALLY hyper for the first 2-3 days.
She wasn't having tantrums (she hasn't had tantrums since we switched her to the GFCFSF diet, yay! :) but she was VERY high-energy, running, giggling -- it looked like a post-birthday-party sugar rush. Also, her frustration level was not good: she would get easily frustrated by simple tasks and cry or yell for help (again, she used to do this ALL the time, but this was the first time we had seen it since we started GFCFSF). She was also stimming non-stop -- I mean, flapping her hands so fast, I worried she might sprain a wrist or dislocate her elbow or something. Yikes!
But just when I thought that I'd made a huge mistake buying this expensive vitamin, the side-effects went away. By day 5 on SNT, her stimming calmed way down and she wasn't hyper anymore. I increased her dose to 1/2 tsp on day 6 with no negative effects. Her energy is great, she's attentive at school, and her speech is already improving. I'll keep increasing the dose 'til we get to the full dose for her weight (1 tsp/day).
A few tips:
+ The company recommends breaking up the dose so your child isn't getting the whole thing at once. I'm currently giving our DD 1/4 tsp at breakfast and 1/4 tsp at lunch. I just mix it into her juice (pear juice or V-8 hides it just fine :) and she takes it with no problem.
+ We're also giving her a separate calcium/magnesium/zinc supplement, because the SNT variety we're using (the hypoallergenic formula) doesn't have much of those. Magnesium is supposed to help calm any hyperactivity.
+ We also started her on Kirkman's DMG this week. It's supposed to help with mood, energy, speech, etc., and seems to work well together with the SNT.
calcium/magnisium best at night and help the hyperness. Try stopping corn products also.
