Low salicylate diet? | Autism PDD

Share

I'm wondering if anyone has done a low salicylate diet and seen success? Our ped thought that Jadon might have a "fructose intolerance" because he was having 3-4 very soft stools per day. We took him off of all juice and cut back on his fruit intake and his stools reduced to 2-3 per day, occasionally he will have a more solid stool.

Anyways, we are now wondering if maybe his problem is more a salicylate sensitivity than a fructose intolerance as many fruits are high in salicylates. Anyone have success with a low salicylate diet? It seems so hard to do from what I have researched.
Thanks Ann! I couldn't open your link--it said page not found.

Do you have any info about what foods we need to avoid with yeast?
Here is the link again...hopefully this works... http://users.bigpond.net.au/allergydietitian/fi/sal.html

I go all organic and limit their carb intake (no chips/cereal - this makes it worse) as well as using organic flours to make any carbs that they eat...no bread from the store (too processed!!). I let them eat one or two fruits per day and make sure its not very ripe!! I make pancakes, cakes, cookies, bread and ice cream...I also only use Xylitol sugar (can be bought online or from health food stores)...the dr told me its the only sweetner that doesn't agitiate the yeast!!

I hope this helps!!We do this diet as well as low oxalate and GFCF...it is restrictive but well worth it...my 10 yr old weaned off of ADHD meds, it was causing alot of hyperactivity with my two boys...here is a website that give you an idea of different foods!!! http://users.bigpond.net.au/allergydietitian/fi/sal.html&nbs p;  Have you considered yeast as well!! Diarrhea can sometimes come from yeast. Let me know if you have any other questions!!!

Hi

When considering yeast, you need to cut out sugars as yeast in the body feeds on sugar. Yeast issues often manifest themselves in lots of giggling, red ring around anus and sometimes itching (can't remember other symptoms)- a website called danasview has a lot of information- a google search would help find that site. Sometimes it takes a bit to load up.

We also use xylitol instead of sugar plus I use yeast aid from kirkmans and no fenol enzymes from Houstons to counteract foods high in phenols and salicylates. Plus of course gfcf , no msg, aspartame etc.....

Another good website is www.enzymestuff.com
