What are other causes of toe-walking besides autism and CP? I am
concerned about another child who is very close to our family. 4.5 year boy
who still toe-walks. WOW, I cant beleive it I remember doing this when I was in elementary school, about 9 years old I cant remember why or how it was triggered only that sometimes, when nobody was around I would walk on my toes, very strange, but its funny that reading posts of parents of kids on here and remembering that I did the same stuff is kinda weird. The sound I remember liking of the front of my shoe hitting the floor first as apposed to walking normally. Im sure this looked weird when someone did see me doing this, but I tryed to hide it and dont recall doing it for a long time, just that year in 3rd grade.Ky did this alot from the time she walked up to probably age 4. She will once in awhile do it. Not sure why or what makes her do it.
I'm not sure about causes other than the ones you mentioned. I know that I have a niece that is in her thirties now that is completely NT and walked on her toes for years. My son walked on his toes briefly until OT intervention. I have a niece that has a son that has delays but no diagnosis that still walks on his toes and he is 6 years old.

My dd is ALWAYS walking on her toes! The dev. ped. said it was very common in kids w/autism and that I shouldn't worry because she'd eventually stop. On the other hand, an OT told me I needed to keep stretching her calf muscles or they could tighten like that for good. ooops...sorry, original question was other reasons....I don't know the answer to that. My sister did it for awile I remember but no idea why. She doesn't do it now.Uh, how 'bout Neurotypia? It can just be a habit.
Is that his ONLY symptom you have observed?
What exactly is "toe-walking"? I used to curl my toes under and walk on them, which hurt but felt kind of good. Is that considered toe-walking?Sarah was a toe walker till almost 3..straight on tippy toes too!
We got tap shoes for her stop it and constantly touched her shoulders with statement" Feet down!' and over time she stopped completely:) It was one of her sx of autism I was told...I just thought it was cute:P
Heard a theory about toe walking at a biomed conference just recently. The presenter (Dr William Shaw) said that toe walking could be related to oxalate deposits in the feet. Supposedly the deposits can be painful which causes some people to prefer to walk on their toes.My friends dd is 7.5yo and still toe-walks. She isn't ASD--but she is something---ADHD, anxiety--or maybe plain old undisciplined!! She may be ASD--but she doesn't have the social delays so bad. Plays great with others--but can be quite the brat--wanting things her way or no way!
Maybe she has the foot problem. Her dad has weird achy feet all the time. But then---they also have a family member with probably AS.
Well, the boy I was referring to also drooled and mouthed objects until heMy 5.10 year old still toe walks a fair amount,My NT? two year old does it too,for The 5 year old its definitely sensory,The two year old may be because he sees his Brother.

My DH and I BOTH were prolonged toe-walkers. Neither of us had any foot pain so I am quite skeptical of the oxalate theory.
I heard it is considered typical up to about age 3 or 4, BTW.
