Just thought I'd let you know you're not alone. Lou likes to scream when
he's playing his game boy or when very excited and nothing I've tried gets
him to stop. All I can do is make him play his game boy in his room so that
the screams don't hurt my ears.
hopefully he'll soon learn something else to show he's excited.
Cassidy,
Hi just wanted to say welcome to the board!! Not sure what to do either about screaming but michelle seems to have some good advice there. Take care and WELCOME!!

you might try a pvc elbow. My son's teacher uses one. hold it up to his ear so he can see how it sounds you can get it at the any home improvement store.I'm not sure the use of the pvc elbow, is it used to deter the child from screaming? i would assume because many kids on the spectrum have hearing sensitivities that that might possible be uncomfortable. it sounds rather odd to me.we were told to teach him to wisper, which he thought was a riot ! LOL, since we showed him that the voice does actually have a volume button so to speak, this has greatly reduced the yellingI am new to this and really enjoy all the infomation everybody gives. My son will be 4 on July 24 and is autistic. I am very proud of him. I have had a lot of help with all of our issues but i am having one problem and nothing seems to work. He is a screamer and has a very loud and high pitch scream. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Hi Cassidy Welcome to the board.
What I was taught to do with my son with his loud and high pitched voice was to over minic a deep toned quiter voice and repeat to him what he had said and tell him to use his indoor big boy voice. It took several years to correct it but it worked!
Welcome to the board cassidy! It's the best one i've found so far! Well...I can't help you on the screaming. My son screams high pitched too. He does it when upset, or when excited, and sometimes I dont know the reason. We get stares when I take him to the pet store as he screams high pitched in front of the windows of puppies/kitties and it hurts my ears. He also jumps up and down and sometimes bites himself (not hard) from being overly excited I guess. He is not dx'd yet. Sorry I don't really have anything helpful to offer, but WELCOME anyway!

Cassidy,
Welcome to the board! I also don't know (wish I did).
The only thing that has saved me is that I have developed Mommy hearing.
