That sounds like a great doctor! I wish we had Wilford hall. Sorry about the blood draws, I know how traumatic that can be. Glad you had a productive visit and sounds like the boys will benefit alot from this dr.Thanks Linda! I wish you guys could come here and see this doc, he is so great. Yeah I'm wondering about the one tricare gave us. We are suppose to have an appt tomorrow but they called today to reschedule. I was a little ticked off. It would have been nice to have had a little more notice. DH took off work and everything. I kind of wish now that we had taken that PCS to San Antonio, but I really thought Tampa was the better place for the boys. Now I'm not so sure. Wilford hall would have been great.any chance you can have your dh update his dream sheet so that if there ever is an opening in San Antonio you could come here??Hey San Antonio would be very workable for me.  Could you give me some info on how to contact that dev ped?  I'd like to take B to a good one, and the ones available here in La reallly suck IMO.

Probably not. We just got here and he retires Jan 09. This is our last assignment unless he decides to stay past 20, which I don't see happening.

Mary, Wilford Hall where she went is a major military medical center. THey are along the same lines as Walter Reed or Bethesda Naval Hospital. You either have to be active duty or retired to access the drs there, unless he is in the reserves and has a private practice somewhere. the boys neuro was like that.

I had planned to mention this but things have been so crazy this week. We had our appt. with the developmental peds over at Wilford Hall today. Very nice doctor, lots of knowldege on Autism.
First thing we determind was that Jack is not adhd. YEAH!!! One label we can hang up. He is not a ping pong ball type kido. And the ped neurologist never should have given him that diangosis at such a young age. He has anxiety. And we can treat that and the sleeping problems with the proper medication that both parents feel would benefit him more than the Tenex the doctor at BAMC wanted to put him on.
Also the doctor feels the school doesn't have the right behavior plan in place for the boys. So he is recommending that he be included on the team to be advised updates and changes. And he knows out therapist at at our therapy center (went to school with the owner) so he will work with them on a plan to help the school give the kids what they need and to get an effective behavior plan in place.
He was very impressed with JD. How calm he is, how good his behavior is and agreed they are doing some wrong at school, and that explains why he is only agressive at school. Told me was and exceptional mom for getting the boys help at such young ages and being so pro active. That really validated my feelings.
The doctor is also putting a referal to the developmental team for jack. This team has speech, physical, and occupational therapist. A nutrionist, doctor, nurse, and pyscholgoist who will observe him for 1 hour and make recommendations for us on how to get the picky eater to eat more, and things like that. I didn't know teams like this existed. This will take place in 2-3 months.
At this time the doctor is not going to recommend any MRI's or CAT scans. He doesn't feel its necessary because neither child has ever had a sever injury to the brain. And in most cases this just causes additional trauma for the child.
The worst was the end we had to draw blood for both kids to do genetic testing, chromsomes, fragile X, etc. Should have results in 6-8 weeks. Both boys had to be held down and they were tramatized by it which it to be expected. They are resting and taking it easy.
I am so emotionally drained and tired. I tried not to cry but its hard to see my baby screaming. I can only emotionally dis connect myself so much.
Anyways, that's what happened today. Mostly good news.

I understand that Linda. We stayed until 23 yrs, just for the benefits, but we had to spend the last 8 years in Arizona.

Mary, I do know some deve. peds in San Antonio that are not affilated with the military, civilian doctors that I could get you contact info on. Houston might be closer for you. check out the database on the ASA website.

We have a great one in Lewisville, Texas and sees patients within weeks instead of months..Dr. Michael Rios:) He doesnt accept insurance and charges @ 0 for the 3 hour evaluation but if you have alot of evals already done like speech, abbls, pt/ot, neurologists..he will knock off some of the price:)  It is nice to have the professionals on our side:) Blood draws were the worst for us too..they wanted 4 vials and it took at least 4 sticks
