O.K., I know this is a rather strange question, but I'm curious.
Both my kids just learned tonight how to blow up balloons. I wasn't
surprised that my NT daughter figured it, however, I was when my son got it
as well. He was a late bloomer in the fine motor area (didn't drink from a
cup and struggled with a spoon until he was 3.5, etc). Since blowing up a
balloon involves several well timed steps, I'm actually quiet impressed he
can do it.
Just curious if your child can do this, and if so, at what age he/she figured it
out. Anthony is 4 and has tried but I honestly can't remember if he was ever successful. Now I'll be testing this one out LOL.
I think that is very impressive!
Sarah just learned this skill around 6 years old and only because she was obsessed about doing it. It took many trials and errors & lots of frustrations before she could do it. She still cant blow razberries with her tongue sticking out either.
I always wondered what developmental skills she is behind in or missed totally. She blew bubbles really late too @ 4 years I think? She would always suck in no matter how much we tried to teach her to blow out and the same thing with blowing her nose...she sniffs it in and not out!
She loves getting packs of balloons and blowing them ALL up and having little "parties." It keeps her busy and she really, really likes it. This past time is still going strong and she is almost five:)
Adam cannot blow up a balloon at 12. In fact he just tried a few days ago. Still can't do it. haven't tried..but I doubt he couldWhen his little brother turned 1, he was 4-1/2. Yet, his brother was better than he was at blowing out birthday candles.
Might be a motor planning issue?
Oh no we're not even close. I'm still working on whistles. LOL!Chase has been doing it for at least 6 months. The thing is that we never had him try before that. He was able to do it immediately. Actually, we didn't even show him, he had a balloon from the mall and it wasn't tied, he let out the helium and started to re-blow it up. So, that was at 4 years old.Hmm.. Never tried, but I seriously doubt it :)That's impressive! It takes quite a bit of skill to be able to do that! (I'm a speech path - and a mom). My son (4 1/2) can just blow some air in, but not enough to expand the balloon.
Way to go! Dooder's Ma
No ... bubbles are tough too. But, he was also born with a cleft palate and has had surgery to currect that. He still directs air from him nose, but it is better then it used to be.
