Chewy tubes instead of pacifier | Autism PDD

My speech therapist (and OT) gave us a couple- free.  Six months ago--he was gagging himself with them and throwing up! (yuck) we moved to baby teething rings and chewy fishes.

PS- what is really weird to me btw- is that Harris STOPPED using/being interested in a binky around 8 or 9 months- with no intervention by us....but then a few months later wanted to MOUTH EVERYTHING... ???!!

Cin051639180.5143981481Brianna had some of the chewytubes but she did not like them at all but she did like having a chew nackless but it broke and i can't find another one.But bri. always loved her binkys. She was off of them for a month but she has always asked for them and before she was on them all day long. Now she only uses them at night. She found them in her toy box on friday.you can also try the z-vibe. My son Jack prefers that z-vibe to the grabbers.Paula,

If you're really brave-toss all of the binkies at once, and just don't give them back. If the wrath of your son is a bit too much to bear (which i'm sure it just might be! ) try cutting holes in the tops of them. Then introduce him to the chewy tubes. You could also make your own (purchase thicker aquarium tubing from a pet store/walmart, buy some string and thread it through the tubing to make a necklace or bracelet for him to wear so it's on him at all times.)

Good luck!

Tobi's OT made him a bunch of them that he uses.. We have them in our home, car, respite care and at school for him..

Well you could just get one (theyre only a few dollars on ebay) and then try to give him that instead of his pacifier.  I had no idea my son would like it so much but he did the first time I gave it to him. I think it gives them the oral stimulation that theyre looking for.  Id say just give it a try and see what happens! :)

I found scented grabbers at beyond play. My son really seems to like them esp the grape and the chocolate ones. I am so glad they make these kinds of things. It would have been impossible to get rid of the pacifer without them.I would love to have my son interested in the chewy tube but he loves his binky.  Any ideas on how to get him to take the chewy tubes instead of his binky?

Hi all. I posted this on another thread but I just thought Id do a separate post also for those of you whose kids always have to have something in their mouths, like mine.. I think this is a good alternative to a pacifier..

My son likes the green textured one.. You can find them on ebay too. :)
