This has just started with my 4YO. He's always been sensitive to tags in his shirts (must come out), or if his socks feel funny.
This morning I went through 3 pairs of pants until I would find ones he would wear. He hated the way 2 of them felt and just pulled and cried until I took them off.
Makes for a frustrating morning for sure.
my son went through this ,at the end I would just put out three tops and three bottoms, and i would say choose.
It wasent as easy as that,But you get the point!,you may need to set the timer, give a small reward for getting dressed,or maybe no TV or breakfast, ect ..Until dressed.
Good Luck,God bless,Linda
Help!!!
My 6 yr. old daughter has PDD-NOS and is having difficulty getting dressed for the day. She will only wear limited clothing. Most of which does not fit the season. So, if it is cold outside, she wants to wear shorts. We have tried layering her clothes, putting pjs on underneath and dresses. She can't stand tights though which poses a problem when it is cold or raining. Is anyone going through this? I actually have anxiety attacks over this in the morning and am exhausted by the time she goes to school. Do these kids grow out of this? I was hoping to hear from people who have kids a bit older and are coping better now with sensorytactile issues so I could have some hope. My poor husband took vacationthis week and I think he is ready to go back to work!
My DD is turning 7 this week. We have had those issues too. We have to feel the inside of her clothes for the seams. If its soft, we can buy it, if its the least bit rough, then we can't. We also have to hide her fav pair of this or that on a weekend. She will be MAD for that day, then she seems to warm up to the replacement. We have also had our friends daughter, she is in 7th grade, help my daughter get dressed and tell her how cute this or that is. My DD really looks up to this girl, so that kind of changed things. Now its easier to dress her. But for awhile, it was like torture! When that was happening, I would buy her fav type of clothing in every color they offered. That really helped since she liked the way certian clothing fit.
Thank you everyone for your advice! We seem to go through this more in
the winter. I asked her OT but he is focusing more on calming her at school.
I asked her behavioral specialist too but she doesn't believe in sensory issues.
Like I am making this stuff up!
