Has anyone heard of this? Its an enlargement of the tips of the fingers, where the angle of the nails emerges. My dr as other drs look at your fingers at an appt, noticed I have some of this. I told him my dad has it too as our hands look alike and so does my son. It poses no medical danger, but is often caused by lung disease. I was always told I had tapered looking hands and fingers. I didn't know if anyone else here, had that or could be a genetic link to autism. I'll find out soon enough when i take my son to the geneticist. It is usually a sign of prolonged oxygen insufficieny... like from heart or lung disease... I've never heard of it linked with autism before?? Perhaps the fingers are more "stubby" and not truly clubbed??? I think I had something like that (swollen fingertips) in response to a medication (for physical things) that was doing really bad things to my body. It's gone now.
From the family doc: I look for "clubbing" as a sign of lung disease or oxygen deficiency. Clubbing can also be seen in long time smokers, and I imagine in long time exposure to second hand smoke. I have never read of an association with ASDs.
The finger nails go downward rather than straight across. They slant down. I don't know if its a autism thing, I was just wandering if anyones asd children have this, it could be a nt thing too. I don't want anyone to think , that I'm saying asd kids have this. I was just curious, if any drs have said anything about anyones nails. You know drs can look at nails and see different things. Color and lines are suppose to represent something--I can't remember. I just saw another post for a geneticist and I just thought maybe someone would know.THaNKS!
