Finally the DX.... | Autism PDD

Hi I think I'm in the same situation you were in during those 3 yrs. We are waiting for an evaluation. My son has been seen by numerous people and not one thinks he's on the spectrum. They say he makes good eye contact and is social. Can you please share some information about what your son was exhibiting that has now finally been confirmed as ASD? It might help me alot.Where are you in NC?

Finally after 3 years of fighting to figure out what was going on with my oldest son and 2 trips to the Neurologist we have now been offically DX'd with HFA, ADHD, OCD, Childhood Anixety Disdorder and dislexyia.

Now I have to go talk to the guidance councosler at school because the teacher is pulling this crap of he's "perfectly normal" in my class I don't think he needs to get tested for any services, etc... He really needs to be Accedemically Acclerated Tested because he is flying through his work at school and its not challenging him at all.

I truely only wished I would have fought harder begining 3 years ago and it didn't take having my 2 yearold dx'd with ASD for me to learn more about it and the signs.

If anyone has any advice for getting the services from the school or anything we are more than up for it. We are still new to this and don't have anything yet other than a ST and a OT we are in NC

I am so happy for you and your family in that you found some answers. I know what a relief that can be! Well, not that ASD, and other disorders are a good thing, but it's so nice to have some answers when you've known something is wrong for so long. The same thing happened to us, my youngest is severly autistic, so people took notice, and pointed us in the right direction with him. We got him diagnosed, and he's been in EI. My 5 yo has always been pushed off as ADHD, and just generally defiant. It wasn't until I was looking up info about ASD for my youngest that I realized my 5 yo fit the criteria. Now there is a waiting list at the dev ped a year long for his age group, and he's had no EI. Like your son he's academically ahead for his age, but my ds is very behind emotionally, and socially.
As far as the school goes, I'd ask for an emergency IEP meeting in writing. I'd ask for him to be tested, and I'd use those scores, and the docs report to ask for the services you believe he needs.
