Knowledge is the cure

Back to Autism Information >> Next Topic
First of all, I'd like to commend the authors of this website for providing knowledge and understanding.  Those are the 2 main survival and correction tools for autism.
The body, when effected with autism, becomes very complex.  Overall, the medical community is great with stuff that leaves nice little trails that they can follow with their labs and fancy equipment.
We are each our own best counselor and physician.  When we depend on someone else to 'correct' whatever is wrong with us.  We turn ourselves over to their ability to understand us.  And then, are we able to adequately communicate to them what is wrong with us?
Yes, it's important for the caretaker of autistics to know things.  It's critical for the sufferer of autism to know things.  The very first step to conquer autism is to understand 'cause and effect'.  Most times, the effect is far removed from the cause.
For instance; in my case, it takes 4 days for beef to reduce me to grunting.  That took me 7 tries over 8 months to discover that.  And even after I was sure beef was the cause, I still ate it 2 more times.  guess I had to prove it out.  However, the cause, 'turkey', immediately revealed the effect, 'crave to rip my skin off'.  didn't have to try that one again.
Now, if us insiders are having a difficult time with this, it must be extremely difficult and frustrating for you 'outsiders' to see and understand this.  I'm only now beginning to see the 'outside' view, as my kids are autistic.  I learned very quickly, do not tell them anything, as they'll fight back.  I've taken the tact of 'revealing' what I've discovered about myself and 'planting seeds' in them.
The main trait of autism is, we have 'examining' minds.  We focus on everything and 'think' it through till we burn ourselves out.  Till there is nothing else to examine.  Then move on to something else we don't know.   So, the tactic is to 'lay the information' out in their path and let them stumble across it.  May take months, days, or if I'm lucky, at the moment.
The recovery process takes years.  This ain't like a broken bone, where doc sets it, bone heals, month later back in business.
Autism is very involved and complex with many aggravators (allergens).
Step #1 is to isolate.  Remove all allergens, sensitives, aggravators.
In other words, 'go safe'.  that is to suspect absolutely everything as a cause.  My 'go safe' is air and water purity and pears and potatos only.  No carpet, showers, touch only white cotton, no dyes or scents.  I'll stay this way for at least a week till return to normal.  And since I can't think clearly, I try to reflect back and discover what element took me off track.  What was 'new' to me that I didn't see.
Step #2 is to correct the physical damage done so far.  Get my body healthy.  finding vitamins, supplements and food to get healthy.
Step #3 is to come to terms with this and maintain this lifestyle.  It's now just as much a part of me as an arm is.  Plus, research, research, research. The more knowledge I have of how my physical is and how it works, I am more empowered to handle new situations as they arise and get myself back healthy faster.
I now view all of this as just obstacles in life. no biggie.  There are pros and cons in all of it.
For ya'll outsiders ----- learn to be patient, patient, patient.  There is an answer and solution, and it's most likely unique to that person.  Do not listen to the medical profession overall, there are a handful of practitioners that are on the trail.  Listen to them, but remember, they are on the outside too.  Depend on yourself and the sufferer.  I know now that God will reveal to you the tools you need to assist.
In the last 2 years, there were things that just 'popped' into my head that got me outta this.  The only place this could have 'popped' into my head from is the spiritual realm.  which is God and Jesus Christ's domain.

May God bless your efforts
