Autism WalksHi all I thought maybe we could start a thread for autism walks.... where they are being held..... so anyone else interested could look here for their city and go out and walk! Please don't respond to things here just continue to add walks you find or hear about in the reply. You can mention a particular walk in the other forum section that everyone can respond to... it will make looking for a walk much easier! Thanks! WALK NOW is Cure Autism Now's grassroots fundraising and awareness initiative uniting thousands of parents, children and families in a fun, friendly, empowering environment. The Walk is a 5K (just over 3 miles) with lots of water, food and fun along the route. And each WALK NOW event includes a Resource Fair. Parents can meet a variety of autism service providers while kids enjoy arts & crafts, moon bounces and other fun activities. WALK NOW events will be held in thirteen cities this year. Join us in walking toward a common goal--to find the causes, effective treatments and a cure for autism.

I too will be walking in Boston and hope to find Ali along the way !!!!![QUOTE=buddha]Hi, Thanks, We walked in Boston on September 25th for and with our grandson Jonathan and our family. It is so amazing to feel the love surrounding those thousands of people there! Was asked by some to post the poem written by me when we first found out that he was Autistic. So, because they asked:- THIS SPECIAL CHILD WHEN A CHILD IS BORN, WE JUMP WITH JOY IT DOESN’T MATTER IF IT’S A GIRL OR BOY HIS FIRST SMILE SENDS US INTO ORBIT HE’S SO SMALL, NO CLOTHES SEEM TO FIT. WHEN HE CRIES AND SEEMS TO BE IN DISTRESS, WE HUG, BURP AND CHANGE HIM, AS A GUESS. HE TRUSTS US TO DO THE RIGHT THING, SO MUCH LOVE THIS LITTLE ONE DOES BRING. WHEN WILL HE CRAWL AND FINALLY TALK? WE HOLD HIS HANDS WHEN HE TRIES TO WALK. THEN ONE DAY, HE GOES INTO HIS OWN SHELL HE DOESN’T SEEM TO PLAY WITH OTHERS WELL HE MAKES CIRCLES IN THE SKY AND WON’T LOOK YOU IN THE EYE! WHERE DID MY LITTLE BOY GO? HE’S NOT HERE HE’S IN HIS OWN WORLD SOMEWHERE. THE DOCTORS SAY SOMETHING’S WRONG THEY SAY BE PATIENT AND REMAIN STRONG THEN THEY FINALLY COME TO A CONCLUSION – AUTISTIC THEY SAY, WHICH CAUSES GREAT CONFUSION. WITH TEARS AND PRAYERS, NOTHING SEEMS TO CHANGE SO MANY CONSULTANT VISITS TO ARRANGE IT’S SO HARD NOT TO SCREAM AND SHOUT WHILE WE QUESTION, “WHAT’S THIS ALL ABOUT?” PEOPLE AROUND US SAY IT ISN’T SO “HE’S JUST A LITTLE BOY, DON’T YOU KNOW! HE’S JUST SHY, AND NOT LIKE THE OTHERS YOU SHOULDN’T COMPARE HIM TO HIS COUSINS OR BROTHERS!” WE GIVE HIM A HUG AND WAIT FOR ONE BACK HE FINALLY DOES – “ARE WE ON THE RIGHT TRACK?” OUR FOCUS IS ON HIM, OUR ENERGY SPENT. WE SEND HIM TO SCHOOL WITH SUCH TREPIDATION WILL THEY TAKE HIS BEHAVIOR INTO CONSIDERATION? WILL THEY LOVE HIM EVEN WHEN HE LETS OUT A SCREAM? WILL THEY KNOW WHAT MAKES HIS EYES GLEAM? WE'RE SCARED, BUT WE WANT HIM TO REACT TO THE WORLD AND TO US, AS A MATTER OF FACT! THEY SAY HE’S “SPECIAL” AND IS A DELIGHT “JUST BE PATIENT, HE’LL BE ALL RIGHT!” SO PRAYERS CONTINUE, EACH DAY GETS BETTER HE NOW KNOWS HOW TO PRINT A LETTER THANKS TO THOSE “SPECIAL” TEACHERS OF HIS THEY TELL US, “HE REALLY IS A WHIZ!” OF COURSE HE IS, WE KNOW THAT TO BE TRUE THIS SON OF OURS WHO IS “SPECIAL” TO YOU HE’S OUR HOPE, OUR LIFE AND OUR LOVE A “SPECIAL DELIVERY “FROM ABOVE!
