She'd never heard of chelation till june and he is 7.2 years old.

Congrats, about the same time my little guy started the bike riding, don't forget to teach him how to stop. He loves biking but has a tendency to aim at all the innocent bystanders. Brandy's a whooping 14 years now, and boy can that guy pick up the speed(2 wheeler).......get your running shoes on cause they only get faster. Tried the DMSA within the past year and WOW talk about eye contact......freaking me out a little......creeps up behind me and all of a sudden there he is 2 inches from my face! It's like he's seeing everything for the first time.I heard that chelation was ineffective on older kids.  Most people say that if you don't do it before the kid is 3 or 4 that it is too late.  So who is right?

OOps!! I just realized I forgot to supply the link to the other thread.

Well Peaches, chelation and a whole host of therapies are probably more successful if done at an earlier age. However before you decide on a therapy, you will find conflicting opinions on everything..............just ask yourself what makes sense?............why wouldn't it work on a older child or even an adult?is there an imaginary wall that keeps them from chelating? Practically everything I've tried has worked, although in small ways....there has been no eureka, no, "Oh my gosh he's not autistic".............but they have helped,  and chelation has helped.............we will continue to proceed forward.....in small steps.

Hi Galaxy-

You said you could not find a DAN doctor in Canada without a hidden agenda.I am curious to know what sort of agenda you are talking about.  Do you mean that they were just in it for the money instead of just helping kids?  Did they "put you off" in some way?

I have heard of some parents getting turned off because their DAN doctor said right off the bat that the autism was just mercury poisoning. Is this what happened to you?

Thanks,

Peaches

Hi Peaches, when I say "hidden agenda", I'm mostly referring to the professionals that have been trained in other alternative type practices eg. homeopathy, naturopathy, orthomolecular etc. When we first go to these people, they want us to try out their method and then after 1-2 years they'll give the DAN protocol a shot. To me, at least, the DAN protocol makes sense.....to build up the body, to balance it by getting rid of excesses, whether it is mercury or some other metal and to remove bothersome foods etc.

I've been to a doc who has spent over 35 years in the sports related field and now he has branched off to autism?? Truly where is the connection? It makes you ask where is his true passion? Is he just on the autism bandwagon?most likely.

Not pushing my DAN or any other DAN for that matter, I believed and still believe each parent should do what they think is right for their child. And no one knows better than you.................

...........the DAN I picked.....not only has been a DAN since practically the beginning, she has spoken at the DAN conferences and has a boy with autism.....I think it makes all the difference in the world.....when you have a "really" connection to autism.......no one else can possibly understand.

Hi Galaxy,

I notice you are from Canada. There is a poster named LENA over on another thread who is looking for a DAN doctor in Canada. Perhaps you have some ideas for her?

I'd love to help out...........unfortunately after searching for a DAN doc without a hidden agenda in Canada...........I decided on one in the states. She gives me recommendations, orders tests and does follow up.............I do the rest...implement, find labs willing to do the tests, and do some of the tests myself....then ship off and wait for the results............only recommend this method for people confident and strong enough...it's not easy but it works for us.
