| This Child of Mine
1 This child of mine, Outside he looks fine... 2 Two ears, two eyes and a nose, And his ten pretty toes. Ten fingers and nails, But in pointing...he fails. 3 And if you look closely, you’ll see, That he’s not looking at me. Blank stares go right through, As I’m looking at you. 4 And alone he will play, Day after day...after day. The few words he’ll utter Make no sense to his mother. 5 As reality sets in, My heart’s breaking within. “Autism spectrum disorder” A “label” – like any other. 6 But what does it mean, When my foe is unseen? They just don’t understand, Across this great land. 7 Normal foods act as dope, As more parents lose hope. And doctors aren’t shown, How leaky gut’s grown. 8 Oh, how can it be, That all fail to see? What’s wrong with my child- What makes him so wild! 9 Some say: “Give him a pill, And he’ll sit nice and still...” But, what good would it do? I’d forever lose you! 10 Yes - I understand! And I’ll take your hand. You’ll leave your shell, And, again, you’ll be well. 11 Your battle – I’ll fight With all my might! And I’ll make them see, For you’re precious to me! 12 This child of mine... Outside he looks fine... By: Jeanne A. Brohart What a beautiful poem...Thank you for sharing!thank is a great poems "Foe Unseen"? What's that supposed to mean? Parents need to embrace autism and treat it as who the child is, not as a evil cancer which will destroy a child. aw...that was really nice....make me have goose bumps...thanks for sharing!![]() |
