ASA National Conference in Rhodes IslandIn the 'Personal Perspectives' part of the July '06 ASA National conference, my wife and I will be presenting, well, performing and presenting a mime and poetry piece that we wrote and have been presenting at conferences for several years. The piece is my experience of autism from inside it is called "God Does Not Make Garbage" Here's what is said in the conference brochure. The dramatic live mime-dance performance, “God Does Not Make Garbage”, by Johnny and Chris Seitz opens up a window that takes participants directly into the world of autism. Through mime, poetry, and music, an empathic message is clearly generated and experienced by conference participants. This live performance gives participants a visceral experience of what life feels like living on the tightrope of autism. This powerful message alters the perspective and understanding of caregivers, service providers, educators and parents alike. Come see it cause we are not garbage. |
