....and once again it was the Special ed Sup "reminding me" to send in the release of records from the Neuro. I told her my position on it as well as telling her that I'd like to have an FBA for my son. She said "Hmmm, didn't we already have one of those??" I said no, but I had Easter Seals come in last year and had an ABA analysis completed along with recommendations from them. She said, "Oh, I'll have to look at his file".  Which she did and then called me back to say they will start to use it now? Kinda late wouldn't you say?? Anyways, I also told her about my concerns with the summer and 8 weeks of him coping without any structured program. All this time he's been attending this school and never once had she mentioned any additional placement for the summer. Now she tells me that they have an "add-on" to the ESY which would be about 4 weeks longer in the summer. I'm happy on that note, but now she's telling me she's not sure if they have a slot for him or not, so we'll see. I also found out how my son got the rug burn mark under his arm. His teacher took the phone from the SES and told me he was at the park and all the kids were bunched up on the slides and on the way down she grabbed his shirt so he wouldn't collide into all the kids. I have no prob with her trying to keep him safe, but she could have told me last week when it happened.

I get a real bad taste in my mouth about your whole school situation. They are so concerned about a records release but don't bother to tell you about ESY and are just now implementing a behavior plan??? Geesh. I would get in writing that you want the FBA as soon as possible and I would also put in writing that he needs ESY because of regression of skills. I would DEFINITELY hold a meeting before the end of the school year.

Do they want his records for placement? Refresh my memory.

Hugs.

Well, not so much for placement purposes, julie, but to figure out his recent increase in OCD tendencies. He's always had them, but it seems like he's doing it more often. It's not a big disruption to the class, but he appears unsettled and since he's limited verbally he can't really tell us what's bothering him. The neuro was just an initial consult, and nothing was actually done. I didn't send the consent in because I'm not really seeing the point..lol He is suppose to have his IEP May 11th, so hopefully things will be addressed then. In the mean time I have asked for the FBA several times in the past 2 weeks. It just seems like they don't know what they are doing. If it is in his IEP, they hafta provide that service to him!  As far as medical records, my attorney told me to yank all mine from the school, and not let them have anymore access to them.  The school only has to provide "education"...they have nothing to do with "medical"  The school SLP said AJ's tongue thrust was medical...I told her she must be confusing tongue "thrust" with tongue "tied"  It is sickening to always hafta watch your back...here I "thought" the school would do their best for our children.  Pffffffff boy was I ever WRONG!!!  Tzoya posted something in another post about the teachers qualifications...they have to know how to deal with autistic children in order to teach our kiddos! point blank!!!  I still haven't heard anything about ESY, either...I will bring that up tomorrow in mediation.  I am sure others will be in here to help you more...hang in there!  :) Screeech_200138825.6226388889

If Extended School Year is on his new IEP (the school year legally STARTS in July, so the ESY will have to be on his 2006-2007 IEP), they HAVE to find a "slot" for him or find another appropriate program to bus him to.  If your son had ABA services on his IEP this year and did not get them, write a letter to the Spec. Ed. director, giving her the exact number or ABA services he's missed since they were put on his IEP and ask for "compensatory services."  He can get those over the summer at home AFTER school.  If you want a FBA done on your son (it clearly seems warranted), you MUST put your request in writing.  Given the history this SPec. Ed. director has of conveniently "forgetting" things, put EVERYTHING in writing.  Copy her boss.  Send you letter certified mail, too.

Only provide medical information if you think it will HELP your son, not just to give them more ammo.  And, remember, if it isn't written down, it doesn't count!

He did have ESY on his IEP last year so he could go this coming summer, but what the Spec ed sup was saying is that they do have an additional program to ESY for kids that have a harder time with summer break and needed more than just the 3 weeks of extra school. I haven't sent in the release yet, and I'm hoping she'll just back down, because she did mention going another route instead since his IEP is coming in the next few weeks. If you read my other post, something really must be done here. I have limited time and my son definitely needs an intervention QUICK!!

Thanks so much everyone for such great advice, you've helped alot!
