I'm at my wits end trying to figure out ways for my NT DD to go #2!! She has been potty trained since she's been 4, we went through this with her when she was 3, one of the main reasons why it took so long for her to become potty trained. She holds it in all the time again and complains that it hurts her to go, so she is always leaking in her pants and is tired from not sleeping and holding it in all the time. We've gone to the doctors more than once and they can't find anything physically wrong with her, they didn't do any tests on her except just pushing on her stomache. I have another appointment for her this morning and am going to ask them to try a different approach to figuring out what might be going on, I'm just frustrated and worried, any suggestions would be appreciated I have a very good friend with a NT son. He is now 16, and he had problems until he was at least 11 or 12. They kept telling her that there was nothing physically wrong. Do you have Childrens Hospital near you? Our Childrens Hospital has an incontinence clinic. If you have one they can help with biofeedback and other therapies that may help. I don't think my friend really ever found out what the problem was. I feel for you. It is a difficult road. Hi Dawn,
We don't have a Children's Hospital near us but we do have clinics and a hospital so I'm hoping they can get us in to see someone. Her stomach is always bloated and has been since she was a baby, I just have that mothers instinct that something isn't right, I'm hoping today they will listen, I'm going to stick to my guns about what I want and hopefully all will turn out well. You are not alone, we have the same problem with our asperger's son he is now 11 We had some testing done, nothing physical was the cause of it, We changed his diet but, it didn't help,we gave him a coctail drink of prune juice, apricot juice, grape juice it did help a little, now he drinks a bottle of carbonated water everyday and has been doing great, Have you ever heard of encorpuses? Not sure of the spelling, but is pronouced the way I have spelled it. It is the medical term used for this kind of problem, My son had an enlarged colon because of this and it was painful for him to go, so that only ad"s to the problem. Talk to your doctor and make sure they understand what your child is going through. We took our son to a physiolgist that helped us more than his pediatrician did. I hope you gets some answers soon so your child can feel better. We went through something similar with my NT dd when she was 3. She would actually hold it in so long it would get impacted and she'd be so constipated. We ultimately ended up using a fleet suppository once when it got so bad (based on the docs recommendation, of course). She HATED that and after it got her "cleaned out" we started once a day just having "relaxation" time on the potty, LOL! We kept a basket of books by all 3 toilets and she would sit and read and relax when she felt she had to go. When the poo started coming out, she would get really tense so I sat with her and we did deep breathing and concentrated on relaxing our muscles instead of clenching. It sounds silly, I know, but it worked and it didn't take that long to start working either. But Hannah was the kind of kid that was very easy and you could just "talk" through just about anything and she'd understand. I hope that helps you some, BTDT and it's no fun! We had our appointment this morning and they did an x-ray to make sure there wasn't a blockage, well there wasn't one but you could see how backed up she is and how large the stool in her rectum is I feel for her because I know it hurts her, but I've explained that it will make her sick if it doesn't come out. The doctor gave us some suggestions also that were going to try and then make a follow up appointment with him in two weeks, there hoping the regimen works and that she will continue to go afterwards. He said it can take 6 to 18 months for things to get back on track She is one of those kids that has chronic constipation so were going to have to change her diet and make sure she is going everyday. I hope this all works and that she wont have to have some kind of surgery, thanks again guys |
