ok i took morgan now 5 to the ped. dev dr that dx my other son. he said yes to adhd, anxiety, ocd. but did not want to put him on any meds until he sees phycology. so yes we made the appoints. he has been 3x and now she days adhd, anxiety, some ocd behavoirs and mood disorder. now she wants us to go to a ped. psychiatrist. now how many more dr.s will i have to see before someone helps my son. no one will even start any kind of meds to help him.I understand your frustration Cyndie. I'm sure the doctors just want to make sure they're treating the correct problem before adding medications to the mix. With meds, there's all kinds of side effects and different reactions involved, so you have to be sure of what you're dealing with before hand. Hang in there. I'm sure you'll get some help soon! Cyndie, I cant tell you how many DR'S MY son has seen.MANY.But remember ONLY a pyschiatrist (ped) can prescribe antipychotic meds.ex.risperdal,abilify,depakote etc...or a child neurologist, here are ones that CANNOT DEV.PEDS.,PYSCHOLOGISTS,.It is a pain in but seeing dr after dr.,I understand your frustration,b/c I get sick and tired of going to them, and also therapists who arent doing there job correctly, therapist after therapist.I waste gas money and more stress on myself time.Hes not easiest kid taking to dr.HANG IN THERE. His body is tiny yet and his biochemistry is that of a young child. Meds are serious things, so no one wants to jump the gun. Seeing a pediatric psychiatrist is a good thing. In the meantime, make sure your son is getting the best possible behavioral support, including at home. If you need more parent training, get it on his IEP. You'll need that (and the goals of behavior plans change all the time, so you'll need ongoing training) no matter what. Also, if your son DOES get put on meds, you'll be seeing the prescribing physician pretty regularly, so going to doctors is a permanent part of your life, I'm afraid.i know exactly how you feel! I can't seem to get a dr to prescribe something for my son either. I understand he is still little and i certainly do not want to drug him just to make it easier...I do however feel he needs sleep and is currently not getting a sufficient amount per day. I mean, what parent doesn't already have apprehension in regards to medicating their child...but when the child is not able to function due to lack of sleep what is there? It certainly can't be healthy. I just would like for a dr to prescribe something short term merely to help establish a substancial sleeping pattern both my son and i can live with. I am looking into the weighted blanket and am planning on giving that a shot. My son has already tried melatonin and clonidine(to which he had a reaction) and do not accept beneydryl as an option given the research i have done on that subject. you watch my dear once you see this psychiatrist your child will more than likely get some meds chris stuggles with ocd autism ADHD and mood disorder, and yes i also wondered how many dr. he would have to see right now he sees his regular ped. for normal stuff, a psychiatrist for medicine management, and a therapist for counceling . i hope this helps let me know one step at a time one hour at a time thanks just a mom |
