Quick IEP Advice

I think that the way to look at it is that the school gets federal dollars and so is bound by the ADA.  The school must require its contractors to follow the law, so it is the school's responsibility to get the bus service to follow the law.  (I am assuming here that the bus service is transportation to and from school.  If this transportation is written into the IEP then it is a school provided service, and they are required to follow the IEP and the ADA.)

Keep in mind that there are a few laws that could be in play here:  The Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) which is what the IEP is part of.  And the American's with Disabilities Act (ADA) what is usually used as Section 504 of the act, which is what allows the disabled access to education.  Sometimes Districts will use compliance with the IDEA as a way of showing compliance with Section 504 for a particular kid.  So you might want to sort that out as well.
Hello everyone.

I'm going to my son's IEP meeting in a few. He has Autism. I called a special review because we keep having problems with his bus transportation. All the way down to them not complying with things that were previously in his IEP to include not having his equipment on the bus. Does anyone know if contracted bus services falls under education in the American Disability's Act. I looked under education a few months ago and couldn't find something specific. I really could use some help. I just want to be able to bring something in print with me. Thank you.

The IEP is a legal contract. I believe transportation issues fall into those contractual obligations.

Good luck. Jerry
