New member with odd dilema!

Lisa, first WELCOME...WELCOME...WELCOME.  Second I commend you on your courage of leaving a person who is not worth being with.

I am sorry I don't have any answers on the child care problem.  If you were here(Florida) I'd be more than happy to babysit at night.  My ds would love the company.

I am sure someone else on the site will be able to give you some advice.

I've been reading this forum for the past 3 hours, and OMG I am not alone!! This is great, but I do have a big question for anyone willing to answer. I have 2 boys, one who has asperger's and is 9yrs old, bright child, truly a joy and just has some minor autistic tendencies. My 6 yr old is my real handful.. lol He is always curious, knives, scissors, the stove!! So, I always have to keep my eye on him. He's moderately autistic and I have yet to be able to find anyone that can care for him other than me or his teacher. Which brings me to my problem. I am planning on filing for divorce, my husband wants nothing to do with either child and for the past 10 yrs I've had a heck of a time living with this person. I so want to get out of this relationship and focus on my boys. I have no clue where I can find suitable child care. Both are in school full time and I was recently offered a job working nites, but I can't seem to find anyone qualified or willing to work evenings. Does anyone happen to know of any sites or places I could contact for assistance?? I am in IL if that helps.

Take care and thanks!

Lisa

I don't know transcription, but I do have office skills. I've been searching and haven't found one I can do from home  yet.  Once again, I don't know if that would effect the SSI. I'm gonna do more research today. Thanks for the ideas everyone!!

Maybe there are some parents who wont mind if you don't have a car...depending on how far you are and all...

Can you do transcription or phone work from home?

Answering service?

Thanks for the big welcome Ruth!! I'm so excited I found this site. I wish I lived in Florida too, it's pretty icky in Chicago this morning..lol

Maybe you could look for daytime work instead...

Welcome to the boards!

I would suggest posting fliers at local universities- especially in the Education, psychology and social work departments.  You can request students with experience with "speical needs" kids. You can ten set up play dates and until they are comfortable with your children. Good luck. I was going to look into finding a sitter at the local teacher's college, but then it dawned on me. The most I could work is part time and even that probably wouldn't work. See, my youngest is in a special program in another district and then my oldest goes to school in town here, so both have opposite schedules. When one is off of school, the other isn't, and vice versa. Not to mention the fact of x-mas break is coming up soon. I doubt any employer would put up with such a schedule .. lol  Another issue is losing their SSI if I work. Then if the job doesn't work out I'd have to reply all over again and we all know how fun that process is! I'm not sure what I'm gonna do. I've considered doing babysitting, but I have no car either. That's another one of my problems
