Web site for teaching speech

Does anybody know a web site where I can teach my 2.2 yo son some speech? I am thinking a web site where we can show him pictures of objects and then listen to how they are pronounced, preferably as part of a game. He is non-verbal with  lot of babbling. He has never used a word with meaning.

Thanks,

-Tan

Tan, we actually just got done with a post about something similiar to this.  The topic was earobics.  It isn't a website but its a cd that you purchase and it helps with teaching speech.

I myself just purchased the step 1 cd, and although it states that it is for ages 4 to 7,  I think a much younger child could benefit from it too.  I will write some of what it says on the back of the cd case:

Earobics Step 1 teaches your child how to:

*Recognize rhyming sound patterns in words         & nbsp;         & nbsp;      *Associate a sound with a letter or group of letters          ;           ; *Identify the position of a  target sound in a word         &n bsp;         &n bsp;   *Determine whether two or more sounds are the same or different *Blend sounds into syllables and syllables into words         & nbsp;         & nbsp; *Understand the meanings of words         & nbsp;         & nbsp;                           *Follow spoken directions *

There are a few others listed as well but these were the main reasons I bought the cd.  I bought it from this website as it has free shipping:

Tan,

www.do2learn.com  was recommended to me by one of the therapists at my sons preschool. It has some of the pecs type symbols with words, as well as a couple of good games.

anyone looking to purchase things for in the home to help with speech I came across a site that looks like it may be helpful (might be a good christmas "toy" item??)

My favourite cd rom for teaching speech is My First incredible Amazing Dictionary from Dk and it is quite inexpensive.  I have seen it on the stands with all the cheap prgrams. It runs on my XP ok in compatibility mode. It says the word and then has either a sound effect or a cartoon of the action.  I used it with great success with my son who is now 14 and I can remember when he learned the word accident from it.  He asked me in the supermarket after he had bumped himself, "Mummy am I an accident?" as loud as you please. When we started therapy he only used a few labels when prompted with "What's that" and he wouldn't use his speech to communicate at all.  I have also used it with a non verbal child and managed to get her to say a word the first time we played with it.

The cd rom has some simple games as well which I found excellent for listening skills. I also like any of the living books because you can click on things and then say what happened to work on verbs etc when your child has gained a little language.

There are tons of computer programs you can buy, like earobics, that can help with this. Try googling speech articulation programs, speech and langauge programs...vocabulary...

you can try

I have not been to ALL the sites, but most of them. They are from a list of speech and language treatment products that i have. have fun!!!

We bought the talking golden books cd-roms-"The pokey puppy" "The saggy baggy elephant" "Jack in the beanstalk" ect..it sounds out each word as you move the mouse across.. I had a "talking flashcards on cd but gave it away??" Speechville express website was good too.

Try the Baby Einstein videos.  They are terrific.  Intended for 9 mos.-36 mos. with soothing music and bright pictures.  They are narrated by the the creator of Baby Einstein and she has the best reading voice I have ever heard.

The best video is the Baby Wordswoth.  It teaches in both verbal and sign language ( in case you are like I was, desperate for any form of communication).  It teaches about 20-30 words, all words related to home( cup, chair, kitchen, toys, books, bathroom, home, etc.)

I invested in those because I realized at two y/o I could still count the words he knew on both hands, and this really helped.  You should try buying at least one.  Usually about $15-19 at wal-mart/target.  If you find you like them and it works( of course if your son likes them he'll want to watch it marathon style) then consider, if you are able to either buying the set at Sam's Club or search ebay or craig's list for them.

Hope it helps!!!!

I recommend the site www.starfall.com   My 2 1/2 year old loves it and he can spell words , learn all the ABCs and is even learning to read  we use that one alot!

Also the signing times videos and the baby einstein videos he really loves.  The signing time especially because it shows the word, says the word and then does the sign.  They are expesive but you can borrow them from your library!
