Moving to Jacksonville, Florida

We are currently in Houston and are moving to
Jacksonville with three children diagnosed on the
spectrum. Can anyone recommend the following (all of our
children with problems have ssi/medicaid):

Psychiatrist for behavior issues and ADHD.
General Pediatrician
A network of specialists (here we use texas children's
hospital for instance)
Possibly disability friendly church family (baptist)

any other information that would help us with the
relocation. I have heard wonderful things about the CARD center in Jacksonville, FL Not
sure if they offer the services you are looking for though. You def want to get in touch with Nemour's - they were fabulous with Payne. He saw Dr Abram (neuro) there. We lived on Amelia Island so I'm not too sure about the schools in Jax itself, but I can say that he had a wonderful experience at Southside Elementary. Thanks :)We have a GREAT CARD center here - for information and gatherings...we've not utilized their services though. I thought that I'd read that CARD in Jax wasn't a good match for one of the other posters...might want to use the search feature on that one? We've lived on the east coast of FL and we've done pretty well for Payne. He has moved across the spectrum. Initially severe, then mild back to moderate on regressions - seems we're on a mild phase right now. I'm going to his honor roll assembly tomorrow at his school. He is not in regular education majority of the day - he gets more 1:1 attention this way which is helping to make up for time missed ( he was hospitalized a good majority of kinder.) and he's doing it! So, all I can say is - you get out of it what you put into it. We've had to fight a wee bit, but it was worth every second of it. My sibs currently live in Ohio (and we prev. lived there and in the Carolinas) and it was this way all of those places too. Just be prepared. They WILL try to take advantage of your situation...just like they say in Roadhouse "Dalton: All you have to do is follow three simple rules. One, never underestimate your opponent. Expect the unexpected. Two, take it outside. Never start anything inside the bar unless it's absolutely necessary. And three, be nice. I want you to be nice until it's time to not be nice." Sorry it's been a busy week prepping to move.

Yes we are moving by choice for the most part. My husband
is having trouble finding work here... there is a job
there.

We have no family support here. We have lots of my family
there.

Texas schools have termed one child as needing no
services at all *he has major articulation problems, adhd
(no behavior plan is in place even), high functioning on
the autistic spectrum, and has developmental coordination
disorder that prevents him from holding a
pencil/crayon/cutting etc. so they are trying to fail him
in him kindergarten because they won't give him the
support he needs (been fighting this district since he
was THREE) and the other more severe autistic child was
listed as mentally retarded for ppcd this year but next
year they tell us he is going to regular prek.... he only
has about 25 words even now but they claim he doesn't
get special ed services next year.

For my severely effected two year old the therapist say
she needs homebound school (its REALLY that bad) but the
school says they don't think she qualifies for ANY
services except speech. This is a child who with
therapists coming to the house for her entire life just
about STILL shuts down to the point of going to sleep
when they walk in the room. We can't take her in public
without HUGE meltdowns due to sensory issues and dealing
with people/places she doesn't know is to hard. She is
completely non verbal and has been termed as basically a
walking eight month old. She also has muscle issues and
is weak on the left side.

I have no idea how it could possibly be worse than here.I
have called the school they will be going and one poster
actually posted about it lol. So I am really hoping that
we get more help than we have here. So, you're moving to AI? Jacksonville Florida is where I am moving. The school they
will be slated to attend per the school district person I
talked to is Southside Estates. I talked to a few different
people from there and they told me how to proceed once we
get moved to set up for next school year.

Oops I just reread all that above.. its a different school
with a similar name heh. Sorry about that. We have found a
house to rent in Arlington area. Lived in Jax now live in Sarasota, Fl. Card center was not that helpful , the schools there are just OK...Basically Florida all together does not have good services at all, thats why we are moving out of state next month, if we stay here he will never get help as a adult if he needs it. Wish I could give you better news, are you moving to Florida by choice?
