Diet/Exercise/Supplements WORKED!

My step-son: Aspergher's Syndrome, 10 years old, moved in with us in 2009.

Problems we've had: Behavioral 'melt-downs', malnutrition/abuse prior to moving in with us, problems in school, insomnia, bed wetting, angry outbursts, non-verbal at times, below average weight/height.

Things I've found helped:

First we regulated his diet with all home made and organic foods. NO SUGAR! NO RED DYE! We ensured square meals each day. Fresh fruit, fresh veggies, protein, good carbs, etc. This seemed to balance his behavior very quickly and allowed him to focus more.

Ensured exercise each day. This helped him sleep better and get the recoup his body and brain needed.

Added supplements to his diet for muscle control, brain function and immune system.

He's put on a little weight, doing much better with speaking (he said he didn't talk before because he couldn't think long enough to put a sentence together) and his bed-wetting is beginning to show much more improvement.

Just thought I'd include a little testimony to how important diet/nutrition and exercise is to all little guys! :)

good job, mama!!

Well done!  So happy for you.

We have a very picky eater here too and I have been able to "sneak" some veggies into his fruit juices, using a juicer so it's all nice and smooth (he won't drink anything if he feels it has lumps in it!)

Mixing more fruit at first and gradually adding some veggies of the same color seemed to work for us.  We even made these into popsicles for summer treats, without any added sugar (sometimes I'll add a wee bit of natural honey for some of the stronger tasting vegetables)  Waiting for the bananas to be very ripe adds some natural sweetness to the juice too.  Getting him to drink from a zany straw helped at first too.  Anything to get them to try it, right??

I hope this can help someone else with a picky eater.  I have noticed major improvements in my boys since we switched their diets too. Works for some of us ... definitely worth a try!

Glad to hear it! I wish my son was not so picky... can't get him to eat any veggies at all or fruits except fruit juices due to food avoidance/preference issues...Every once in a while I can sneak some healthy stuff into brownies...pitiful I know....But we recently cut out aspartame and that seems to be making a difference. Difficult though because he is a diabetic also...

That is some of the most ingenious, outside-the-box thinking on your parts! If there's one thing I've found when dealing with children (especially our children) it's you have to think outside the box every day. Challenging, but it makes us better Mom's in the end, I believe.

It's amazing the difference a diet makes! When the H1N1 flu hit the schools, every child in my step-son's class got the shot. Some got really sick. I opted for him to NOT recieve the shot and then they stuck him in a class with 30 other kids who are now walking contaminants!

Big shocker!! Next day he was sniffling, coughing and running a fever. I pumped him with garlic (in dinner...hidden in his favorite...SPAGHETTI), vitamin C slow-release tablets (I grind them with a mortar and pestal then add to apple sauce) and more super strong garlic tablets. Made him stay home for one day and he was fine. Never got sicker than that. ...whew...dodged that one.

But it always amazes me how my grandmother and mother really did know what they were doing when I was sick at home drinking tea with honey and lemon...sweating in a hot bath...and sleeping for days at a time. Turns out...most of the time...grandma's old remedies really do help. :)

Keep your chins up, ladies! You have my admiration and support!
