Feingold?I don't know of anyone that has specifically done the Feingold Program, but do know of parents that eliminated artificial flavors and colors with much success. What a great sacrifice you are doing for your son! It really shows your love! My son is allergic to nuts and eggs. He has reflux so we have to eliminate all foods with citrus and citric acid (this is in soo much!). Then we also don't allow him to have red dye 40 because it causes major irritability for him. So, I know how challenging it is to have a child on a special diet. Good Luck! Does anyone here have experience with the Feingold Program? We are about to start it. I've got all the materials, and have started re-doing my pantry, cleaning supplies, etc and will be starting over spring break. DS has Aspergers, ADHD, and anxiety. The adhd symptoms are ruling the day. We can't get 'in' to address anything else b/c his mind won't slow down enough. They have GFCF accommodations in their recipes and materials, and a lot of people work in both diets. Although, I don't personally think I could handle that. We are starting here, and are going to test his sensitivities as we go along. (CS, natural fragrances, gluten, casein, salicylates) and see how it goes. Not easy, of course, but since when is the non medication route the easiest one? ![]() Anyway, I was just wondering if any of you have personal experience with FG, and what your experience was? We have been doing using the Feingold diet for over 2 years. We have had great success with ds (7yr) behaviour. Technically, DS is GFCFSF and Feingold. We've never done a formal program of anything, but his diet is compliant with their guidelines. We started the diet slowly. I couldn't just throw out good food. So as I shopped I purchased food that met the recommendations. It took us probably 2-3 months before we were fully following the diet. It becomes second nature to check the ingredients list. Even my teens flip the package to see if it is a "Safe" food.Shay 7 1/2 y/o grandson with ADHD, PPD & MERLD has been on Feingold Stage 1 since 4th birthday. Honestly don't know what we would have done without it. We've opted not to treat the ADHD w/ Rx. This diet goes a long way towards helping to keep him calmer. Occassionally we start getting lax about keeping up with it and within hours you can tell the difference, so it's right back on Feingold we go. It's not a magic bullet, but I really can't say enough good about it. I'm curious to see if anyone has an update on this thread? I am already limiting dyes. But am thinking about going full fledge with the Feingold diet. DS psychiatrist recommended it yesterday and said she really believes it would make a big difference in his behavior problems. I just want to get some feedback before I consider purchasing materials that I feel should be free. However, the psych did say it was worth the purchase if I was willing to make it.
