School says my son is not PDD!!!!!!They are doing a behavioral analysis on him and the IEE as well. I TOTALLY know what you mean What autism testing did they do on him? In kindy My son was given the GARS-2 and my results showed likely to have autism in all areas and his teachers showed unlikely to have autism (communication possibly). So he was ineligible for autism dx but got a SLD. He was just given the CARS and another GARS-2 testing which me, his reg. ed teacher and sp. ed. teachers had filled out which i dont know the results of yet. If they didnt give him testing for autism id ask for it. My son was also given the vineland and the basc-2 in kindy which you might want to ask for (mostly the vineland). Good luck! The school psychologists studied my son for 2 hours. No my son is not a severe case. And there argument is, well, he looks you in the eye and he smiles. Really? After all these years that is still their argument? I couldn't believe it. And they had the audacity to tell me when I first met Ian he didn't look like a child in the Autistic Spectrum? I asked them what a child in the spectrum looks like? They shut up very quickly. Yes my child makes eye contact and he smiles at adults. But please let me explain to you that we are going on almost on full year in school and he has never, ever made one interaction with another child in his class. NEVER. I will watch him on the playground (yes, I am that stalker parent), and I watch my child sit on a park bench alone and stare at the other children playing. Just last week the teacher called me to inform me that she had an 'incident' with Ian becoming frustrated with testing and hitting himself in the stomach and throwing himself on the floor. HELLOOO what is wrong with these people. Anyway, I refused any paperwork stating he had a math learning disability. Their arguments were that he scored above his age on reading and spelling. You know do they not know that autistic children are intelligent and have problems only in some areas? If any? I really need help here, I am meeting again with them on the 15th of March, with the Special Education doctor and the school psychologist who performed the testing on Ian. I have an appointment for Ian for an Autistic Study Group @ TCH but they are so backed up that it is 6 months away! I don't want my child to suffer thru school while I wait to tell them I told you so. I don't want to go through a battle with them over their pride because they think their score was right vs Texas Children's. How do I convince these people that because my son is not severely autistic he IS in fact in the spectrum. I have thrown countless incidences at them and reports what do it do? Has anyone faced this? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. My problems are something similar: My son was diagnosed with mild to moderate autism in April of last year. My son is four years of age now. Since the diagnosis, my son has been attending a school which have a separate faculty for children with autism. He is in the pre-school year and is due for transition into junior class this coming September. But over the last two weeks the school has begun claiming that my son has not got autism but ODD even though the psychiatrist has out ruled the likes... The school has also claimed that a move into junior class is not automatic and that they can't accept him on the grounds that he has Oppositional Defiant Disorder and not autism...? (CAN ANYONE HELP!!!!) The school want another diagnosis or review of last year's diagnosis. The school has left such a request so late in the year that by their criteria for school entry, all documentation must be signed, sealed and delivered by April of the year for intended entry. It almost feels like I am in some ways cornered and that the school are hell-bent on proving my son does not have autism. The school stated that it would not be possible for them to take on a child with ODD..... ![]() By the way, mandajayinc, good luck on March the 15th!!! If you want to have fun, try to find out what the school psych's credentials are. Most do not have a PhD and are not actually qualified to diagnose. They can only make educational classifications. Then the next time they say that your has thus and so diagnosis get it in writing. Then give a copy to the state board that licenses psychologists and get them written up for practicing medicine without a license. But the real answer is that it is not possible to convince folks whose jobs depend on not seeing something. We have tried for 3 years to get my Aspie son considered eligible. I have since give up changing their minds and I am working with a lawyer to build a case for a due process hearing. |
