muscle biopsy - great news

I am happy for you.  Take care.
Harriet
Frost, that is incredible news. I know that DM suffers have a shortened lifespan, and that this other type is associated with a much longer lifespan. That must feel like the weight of the world off of you. I am so happy for you. That is great news.  Excellent news!   Thanks for posting it! That's amazing, wonderful news!  You must be so relieved!

I've found, personally, that diagnosis -- just having a solid reason for why things are the way they are -- brings an amazing amoung of peace.

Breathe deeply!

I've got a great update to post. I'm a bit overwhelmed, so this isn't going to be very coherent, but I really want to share this since a lot of people on this board have been very helpful and I feel a sort of a connection with a lot of you.
Em was diagnosed with dmd about about a year ago, by genetic testing. The prognosis looked really bad and we were devastated. Still, being on no steroids, the disease progressed a lot slower than we thought it would and according to his doctor he was at the 'mild' end of Duchennes. As it turns out, after loads of tests and a muscle biopsy-Em does not have dmd. He has Becker md. A more 'severe' form of it, but still...it's not dmd. The prognosis for becker md is better. A lot better. Obviously, his symptoms don't get any better because of a different diagnosis, but at least now we can expect the progress of it to be a lot slower than it would be with dmd. I'm not really sure what to feel.

That's wonderful news!  I'm so happy for your family!

Tiffany
