PA school spies on kids at home

I'm glad the FBI is getting involved with this. Parents had asked the school to stop this after their son almost got expelled for eating Mike&Ikes candy. The school said it was drugs they saw the child eating, on their web cam. That's how Parents found out about the web cams. The school refused to stop. Voyeurism, invasion of privacy, if you ask me. Funny thing, I am so jaded by the way I have been treated, I would expect that a school would spy on the students through the webcam. The only thing that surprises me is that the vice principal was so out of touch as to use the existence of a photo taken through the webcam in the student's house to threaten the student. And that's how the parents found out.

Incidentally, other web sites say that the students were required to use the school provided laptop, could not use their own hardware (under threat of expulsion), and were not allowed to modify the installed software. Also claimed is that the students have seen the light near the camera flash but were told that it was a software glitch and they could get the laptop exchanged.

So what does this teach our children? I'd use it as a teachable moment for the hippie motto "Question Authority".

I'd also use it to point out that changing hardware does not fix a software problem....

This whole thing would be amusing if it were not so predictable and just plain creepy. I do hope that someone gets fired over it.
Can you say psycho? I would be FUMING! Not to mention how do u know there arnt any sicko working for the school who used it to watch the kids while they changed in thier bedrooms???? That scares me! ANd ya they were really stupid about it like they didnt know it was against the law to do this? Crazy!
