Working on educational grant for autism

Hi everyone. I am currently working on a grant that would kick start a public charter school whose main focus would be on those with disabilities. Granted, it will not be a segregationist school and *anyone* can attend per the law. The age group is high school, and Autism and PDD will be a large population attending the school.

The ultimate goal behind this school is to improve the graduation rate of those with learning and developmental disabilities in the particular rural area the school services. This will be done with competent and trained teachers, but a large focus of the grant is on technology that may aid the students in learning.

My question is, what technologies are out there that are state-of-the-art and potentially beneficial to those with Autism and PDD? I understand that these technologies must be individualized to accommodate the individual and their specific circumstances, so any and all ideas are welcome.

If anyone has resources they can direct me to, that would be fabulous. Personal stories and your own knowledge of what works is also sought. I am aware that the technology is only as useful as the educator in facilitating its usage, and this will be accounted for. But again, assume money isn't an issue, and let me know any and all ideas.

Much thanks,

Jon
Hello Jon,
Please have a look at www.senassist.com This is a new site and at present the software on offer is for primary students. However there are plans to cater for secondary students in the future as a result of requests from parents and schools.
In my experience any ICT can be a motivator and a plasma screen would be of greeat value to you as it gains the students attention and can be a very interactive teaching tool,
This sounds like a great project,
Good luck with with,
Best wishes,
Adele

I also hope you'll sign up for my free newsletter. It has lots of educational resources and articles. http://www.PositivelyAutism.com/

Best of luck!
