ssdi eligible?

my 2 yr old son has been recently diagnosed w/autism and has qualified for SSI...my question is this:  would he also be eligible for SSDI?  i live in a rather remote area and i do not have many resources to gather information from regarding this recent diagnosis....my older son, age 3 also shows signs and is to be tested later this month.

i would appreciate any/all information regarding benefits available.

thank you

abby

Autism is a covered benefit, and you can apply.  I did.  But the limits were so low that we won't see any financial help unless we're essentially homeless.  They approved my family for $647 a month, that means they'll only bring us up to $647 of income from all sources.  But, your son could be approved for ssi medicaid too.

thank you for the information....my elder son is more high functioning than the baby and i think i will wait until my oldest son is diagnosed and apply at that point.....i appreciate your response...this whole ordeal is a bit overwhelming for us all

thank you..i appreciate your response and information....this is all a new road for us and i don't know just where to turn for information and help....I could be mistaken, but I believe ssdi is only for adults. If your son is
already receiving ssi benefits, I don't believe they would qualify for ssdi, as
well. But, he should be eligible for medicaid, too.
My asd son receives $674 a month from ssi, which is the maximum amount.
He is also low functioning and will probably always be dependent. My
younger son has aspergers and he was denied ssi because they claimed he's
not disabled enough. They told me only children who have a permanent and
severe disability qualify.
