what can i feed him??

thank you for the suggestions..this has been one of the toughest wk-ends for my husband and I..mealtimes take over an hour, DS screams everytime we approach him with something new and runs away from the table constantly..we are beyond frustrated. Although DAN dr says we should get rid of bananas b/c they are loaded with sugar I refuse to! I made the smoothie and it was delicious, thank you! I also made pancakes and muffins and was able to sneak avocado and zucchini puree into them..as for epsom salt baths.. we tried our first tues night, put 1/4 cup in and left him in for a half hour..way too long but we didn't know! the next day he was so lethargic..will def limit to 10-15 min from now on.

I also decided to go GF with DS and am having nasty withdrawal symptoms..headaches, nausea..so I can imagine he is probably not feeling well either..unbelievable what this stuff does to your insides!

I use protein powders for my 7 yr old...That is the best way to get nutrients in (more absorbable)...I buy rice puffs (no sugar) and us coconut milk (very diluted) and add a scoop of protein powder and milk and shake it together then pour over cereal....

My 7 yr old hates all veggies, loves fruit but he also is low-salicylate as well (I would try to limit the fruit to 2/day but not anymore (children need nutrients)...

I make all his carbs (muffins, pizza), use sunflower seed butter as a PB alternative, brown rice crackers, brown rice pasta and sauce, rice cheese, rice snappea crisps (a great snack), rice cakes with sunbutter, pumpkin (canned) really helps with flavor in baked goods, pumpkin pie with no crust....

My son loves carbs so I take advantage of that and fortify everything with other things....

Epsom salt baths daily was really good for my kids....it helps to open up the pathways that get blocked with these kids....

HTH

Can you make some pancakes and muffins to avoid the processed ingredients?  We make pretty much everything from scratch, and it's a lot easier than you'd think to make really tasty recipes with no allergens or sugar.

I'm doing the same thing - I'm only about 3/4 GF, and I'm already seeing health gains.  I'm sure there's some die-off in the future for me, but bring it on!  I'm really excited about what this can do for me.

Hope you feel better soon!

It could be your body adjusting to a lower carb intake too if you haven't been substituting gluten-free grains or eating much fruit.

thanks!..i'm excited too and hoping to see some positive changes with both of us!

So I went to see another DAN dr on Tuesday. He made a lot of suggestions regarding DS's diet, which has been TERRIBLE-refuses anything but fruits, rice cakes, GF pancakes, GF muffins, regular chicken nuggets/fishsticks, turkey sauage, cookies, and no veggies. He has been CF since last summer, but GF has been next to impossible..Dr. basically said we have to starve him to get him to eat new foods! He also said we need to cut out processed foods (bye bye pancakes and muffins) and reduce fruit intake b/c of salicytes and sugar (he has been eating 3 servings a day!)..so what does that leave? vegetables for breakfast?. He will not touch anything (meats, veggies) I have made for my husband and I, and will not go near GF chicken nuggets. I've managed to get some rice/quinoa with ground chicken and onion in him the past 2 nights..he will also eat GF bread w/ almond butter..but I can't give him that every day! He's already lost a pound since starting this and I'm worried sick. I can't starve him, I just can't do it!! Help!! I also see that he is lethargic and kind of 'dopey' over the past few days, which DAN says is gluten withdrawal. This is really killing me. I'm worried sick about his health and want to cry!

Thank you again..wswccccc

I should also add that DS is already skinny as a twig..

Will he drink a banana smoothie? (We call it banana ice cream) Use frozen bananas, a touch of rice milk, squeezed lemon, some kind of greens (we used kale today but most days it's leafy green lettuce) and an egg. I usually put some kind of sweetener, too, like agave nectar or stevia. All in the blender. Put it on whip till it turns pale green. Call it ice cream and you have one, too. Delicious! You can't taste the greens at ALL due to the lemon.

Also, use activated charcoal for the withdrawl symptoms. I open a capsule and  put it in pear baby food. No taste.
