Therapy outside of school

Oh yes, Private for us was much more helpful. Keep it at school to. Your private Ot's and ST's,PT's  can  suggest recommendations for school that can be helpful to your therapist at school. They can work together to help your son. Private therapist can show you things to do at home to.  If it gets to much you can always cut back somewhere.

You also could start slowly with just one private therapists and see if he can handle more. Maybe pick the most concerning issue to start with.  So happy for you.
We started private speech therapy over the summer 2 days a week after his summer services for preschool dropped from 5 days to 3 for speech (the whole "maintain" thing).

Things went pretty well until the end when we took a week off for vacation and then the therapist had conflicts and illnesses with her own family. My son started kindy in September, and was getting four days direct speech so we decided to continue private for 1 day a week. My son regressed so much with those weeks off, and when he finally saw the private therapist, he wanted nothing to do with sitting and working with her.

We kept at it until December, when the therapist had some personal things to take care of and we'd re-evaluate after the New Year. Well, it finally dawned on me that he was probably just too sick and tired of working after having to work in school  from 8:30-3 everyday. And it was all new to him, a mainstream kindergarten.

If you think your son can handle the private, I say go for it. I feel you can never have enough therapy. But if you currently see issues in him after his longer days, you may want to wait until perhaps the summer for the extra therapy.

We do private therapies in addition to school and the therapies DS receives there.  He's only in school noon - 3, Mon - Thurs, so he does have more free time to work with.  He's definitely benefitted from having both.  The more speech, the better, and the therapists have slightly different approaches, and the combination has been really good for him.

my son receives 2x 30 min OT and ST and 1x 30 min PT a week at school.  He is in an intergrated preschool class Mon - Thu 8:50am to 2:50pm and Fri 8:50am to 11:20am.

We just recently got Mass Health for him.  In the benefits it said with a doctors request that they would cover OT, ST, and PT.

He is doing really well with what he has at school.  Should I look into getting him more outside of school? I want to do as much for him as I can, but I dont want to overload him either.  Is there such a thing with our kids?

How many of you have therapies in school as well as outside?

I do private as well as school, it helps my son.  Also, I use the private evaluations to keep the school on their toes!  And I get to observe and learn how to incorporate things at home.
