Where to you put a child that doesnt fit?

My heart goes out to you.  That is a question that I have asked myself a lot as well.  "Class of one" is a phrase I repeat to myself a lot now.

"She doesnt fit in the special ed room because she tend to regress in there and in the resource room works a little for her but you get some kids that are typical but behavioral problems and she will get excited and mis behave also."

I had problems with my child's placement as well.  From the begining I had personally taken responsibility for his education taking school as his socialization/independence away from me outlet.  However when school provided mostly negative social interaction, undermined his acquired skills and continuously regressed his academics by making him continuously learn things he's known 3 years ago over and over again, it broke my heart but I took him out.

She is a high function child but couple years behind in education. What do you put a child that doesnt quiet fit in anywhere??

Is the SPED working with you to find her a good placement?  Consider maybe a mixed ability classroom with higher functioning kids.

School has a lot of advantages.  If you can make a list and see that the placement the school has for your child adds a lot more to her than it takes from her then work with them to find a better placement.  I hope you find something that works for your DD.

I made my list, what school was adding to ds was a lot less than what it was taking from him that was a hard pill for me to swallow so now I am homeschooling. Another parent talked about a certain peace you feel when it is the right decision.  I  do feel it, so does the rest of my family.  I hope you find a solution that gives you peace.  I would try to work with the school though.  Is homeschooling an option for you?

It's that time of year when it's time to do IEP's to plan for the next year. I am at a road block this year. I have a new case manager for my dd this year who is spose to be great at teaching children to read, well that is about it.  My dd just turned 10 and is in the 3rd grade and was held back in Kindergarden. She is currently does mainstream but is pulled out for resources for reading and math two different times of the day. Now every year they are concerned that my dd cant do the work for the new grade. They have modified my dd work this year and seems to be doing great. I went to observed the 4th grade and I have to admit I am very nervous to send her to fourth grade. She is very behind in reading she is at a 1st grade reading level and writing I believe is probably a 1first grade writing also. So obvisouly she is not up to 4th grade work. Here is my question Her caseworker doesnt know what to do for my dd. Thinks the work is way to above her head. She doesnt fit in the special ed room because she tend to regress in there and in the resource room works a little for her but you get some kids that are typical but behavioral problems and she will get excited and mis behave also. She is a high function child but couple years behind in education. What do you put a child that doesnt quiet fit in anywhere?? I dont know what all the programs there are. They dont know how to think outside the box. Holding her back every year is not the answer. She is never going to be on grade level.
