Vaccine exemption in MAWebsite that I just found that offers the info I was looking for. I thought I would share in case anyone else has the same question http://www.mothering.com/discussions/showthread.php?t=944019 &highlight=exemption Another link Hi, My husband was raised Catholic and I was raised Protestant. We were married in a Protestant church and our son was baptised Protestant. Unfortuanately we do not attend church weekly but we do have God in our hearts I need to know how to go about getting a vaccine exemption for my son in Massachusetts. He is 4 years old and in pre k in the public schools. After we have decided that we do not want him to receive the Pertussis shot (ok for the diptheria and tetanus), the varicella, and the MMR. We have thought long and hard about our decision and we feel it is what is best for our son. Unfortunately the State of MA requires these shots unless you have a medical or religious waiver. I have talked to 3 doctors (2 who treat my son and one who is a potential new pediatrician) and all of them believe the shots are harmless so they will not sign a medical waiver. My only other option is a religious waiver. I have no problem saying this is my reason for not getting him his shots, but is it as easy as that? Do I have to prove anything? Also, he is currently up to date on his shots so what do I say if they ask me why he has had all his shots up until now and now I want to claim it is religious reasons that I do not want him to have the shots? Any help would be wonderful on this. Thank you Can I ask if you are of any religious persuasion? We felt the same as you, and with a good conscience, were able to come up with Scriptures from the Bible that helped us write up a Relgious waiver. Here in SC, I was in the same position as you. I had to go to the county health department. Their form states the general religious preference and I just had to sign. I'm hoping it's that easy in MA if we are moving there. We did a medical exemption. You can ask your pedi to write one, or if you have a DAN dr they can write it. I turned it in with his paperwork to the school and they didnt ask any questions.
sorry I just reread your post and didnt realize that your pedi wasnt an option. Are you still considering going to Northampton Wellness? They will write a letter for you. |
