Philly suburbs - a good place to move?I've heard good things about Chester county...and found this: http://www.cciu.org/ParentsAndKids/ which seems pretty impressive. I'm looking to move for the same. Certain specific areas south of Boston are supposed to be good as well. Still waiting to hear which ones. I'm in Montgomery County and our school district is great. We have an autism program in our school that has helped my son make a lot of progress. The only reservation I have is that in PA, you pay school taxes which can be hefty depending on where you live. Not sure where you're moving from or your finances, so I figured I'd throw that out there. I know of a few good programs for the montgomery/chester county area. I live in Chester county and cost of living isn't bad. There are 2 others from the chester/montgomery county area on here, hopefully they can give you some better ideas.there are some pretty good services in PA. Chester and Montgomery have good ones. They also let you send your kid to private schools if need be, which can be super helpful. I've also gotten my district to pay for camp for my daughter which was a god-send. I think she learned more there than in school and I've never seen her so happy. Overall, it's a great place. You can search for services anywhere in the country using the links here: http://www.autism-pdd.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=19141&am p;KW=find+an+expert PA has a series of Intermediate units, each given a specific number. You may try contacting them to see what each one provides. PA also has a PATTAN a great resource for everyone. http://www.pattan.net/ In addition, each year, Penn State has a terrific Autism Conference with the best of the best of presenters. |
