Nystatin question...As you may recall, Katelyn was on amoxicillin for pneumonia a few weeks back and this threw her for a loop in terms of yeast. We ended up asking her pedi to write for Nystatin since many of you recommended it, and she did, but she wasn't sure of the protocol. She looked it up online and prescribed 2ml 4xday, but only gave us a short supply. We see her tomorrow and I wanted to know if we need to ask for more Nystatin? What is the recommended protocol, like for how long should she be on it, months? Thanks! Technically, you can stay on nystatin indefinitely. It doesn't absorb into the system (just stays in the intestines), so there's no real danger of toxicity. My DS has been on it off and on for over a year. His usual dose is 5ml 3x/day. That's the dose we've used since he was 3 and only weighed about 29 pounds. I would ask for at least 3 months of it - more if you can get her to do it. It can't hurt to have it just in case. I'd also get it compounded to eliminate the sugars and artificial flavors/colors/preservatives that are almost always in the commercial version. After doing at least one month of it, you can take Katelyn off of it for a few days to see how she does. It's such a safe med that you can really put her on and off of it yourself, at least until you get to your DAN appt and get a little more guidance. ETA: How are you feeling? Any signs of the baby yet? Janie, I had the baby last Saturday...Trevor Kyle :) I am going to post a separate thread in the main forum with details. Aww - Congratulations!!! Love the name!Congrats!
