NH or TX?

Hi all,

I have a two and a half year old diagnosed with Autism, and we're currently in RI. But we're going to be moving within the next year to either New Hampshire or Texas.

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience in either states schools and had any advice or comments.

Thanks!

Christie

Texas is a large state and there are TREMENDOUS differences in services, not only by district but even within district.  Check with the district in the area you think you may move to for information on availability of services/educational options.  In my district, the lack of services means that even kids who qualify for things like OT, PT, SLP, etc., aren't going to get much of it.  With some fairly sever, school-related OT/sensory issues, my daughter only qualified for 90 minutes of OT every 6 weeks.  She was also a year behind in speech, initially, and would have only qualified for 30 minutes of speech each week.  No AU options as she doesn't have an AU diagnosis--she currently has a PDD-NOS classification and our district only provides specialized AU services if a child has classic autism.  She would have also had to attend an elementary school 45 minutes from our home as only 1 elementary in the district offers services for children with developmental delays.  The one in our home area (three blocks away) only takes special ed. kids who are ED/BD or LD kiddos who can spend full day in an inclusion classroom without any aide/assistance.
