New to the board but not the autism

Welcome to the board. I look forward to getting to know you. Welcome to a cool place, MDMommy

Hi Everyone!  I stubbled onto this site as a link from another site and began reading through the message board.  I think I started crying after the very first msg!  It is SOOO good to know you're not alone in this battle.  I have a 9 year old son who is the light of my life.  He was initially diagnosed with tactile defense at 5 mths, then PDD at 18 mths then autism at 2 yrs.  He has been in special education schools since he was three and they have been lifesavers to say the least.  I feel we have been very blessed to have gotten him in the classes with what I would call the most caring and involved teachers and aids there ever were!  My son is very low functioning (completly non-verbal and low cognitive skills) and it has been extremely hard to see even the kids that have moved along with him in school gain skills that he just doesn't have.  I often get advice from parents with kids who are higher functioning and while its helpful (and I do appreciate it very much), it all seems out of reach for my son because he is so low functioning.  But this blog has a tremedous range of kids and family just in the few notes I've read, I've been able to get some helpful tips and find others who I can truly relate with.  Thank you all for being so open, honest and free to talk about even difficult issues.  I look forward to sharing, laughing and crying with you from now on! THANK YOU!

Welcome Aboard.  I love this board so much.  You are a sweetie :) Welcome to the board!

Welcome! I am certain you will find lots of help here, it is a great
environment. My son is 7, non verbal and relatively low functioning. Love
him to pieces. This a a great place to hang out.

HarrietYou know what I don't know - all these abbreviations!!  I don't know what they mean??!

I agree!  You sometimes just want someone who can say - "I know exactly how you feel because I am in the same boat!"

I don't get on that often, but those moments when I need to vent or share something exciting, I look forward to connecting to you and others who can appreciate what I'm saying.  Thanks for the welcome and 'talk' to you soon!

Welcome to the board!   It's great to meet another member with a low functioning child.  I can't wait to hear more about your son!
