GF/CF Diet for child not Celiac Positive

Hello,

I am new to this message board.  I have a son 14 years old who has been on the GF/CF diet since he was three.  He is doing very very well.  I just took a position of a caregiver for another autistic boy also 14 who is no where near the functioning level of my son.  I asked the Mom about diet and she was not receptive.  She did say they had him tested for Celiac and it was negative.  However, you can not leave this child alone with crayons, playdough, shampoo, soap ect.  Would this not indicate that the child is seeking all the gluten he can get.  Is anyone getting good results with the diet with children who are not Gluten intolerant according to a medical test?  Thank you for your responses in advance.

I never had my daughter tested.  I just heard that our kids did well on the diet so DH and I thought that there was nothing to loose. We've never tested either, just took the plunge.  Allergy testing for foods is notoriously inaccurate anyway, and the need for the diet isn't always a true allergy.  Basically, the best way to know if a child needs it is to give it a try.
