Melatonin wont work...started probioticsA break?? Yikes. That sounds brutal. :o) But I'll do what I have to do. 4-5 hours of total sleep...not straight. I wish it were straight. He gets up about every 2-3 hours even when the melatonin is working good. But with the mela he's able to fall back to sleep soon after. He's usually in my room countless times through the night. But recently when waking, he's wide awake and will not go back to sleep. He wakes up hyper. We have tried the controlled-release tablets, but we have to crush them to put in his milk so I was wondering if it even worked if crushed?? Anyone know? Theer's no way I could have him swallow pills yet. Is there a time-release liquid? Last night was a little bit better. Have you tried the controlled-release melatonin? We are using that now -- not perfect, but it seems to help.Okay. So we started Blake on priobiotics on Saturday. I started very slow at 1/2tsp once a day. I thought for sure he'd be going crazy by now, but the only thing I'm seeing is his sleep issues, and that his melatonin is not working (at all In the past, if we waited to long to put him in bed after getting melatonin we see this type of behavior. But I've been very catious that his routine is down pat. But in the past when this happens, some times I'd try to give him another dose in the middle of the night. This has always proved to have zero effect. I've often wondered if it actually makes him more hyper. So, my question is, has anyone seen melatonin actually increase activity if given too much?? He gets 3.5mg of melatonin. Regarding the probiotics, how fast and how much should I increase him to? 1 tsp a day? I am just shocked to not be seeing agression out of him. I really thought I would. He's been really happy. Almost overly happy and hyper. Are these signs? I am seeing new stims, but they're happy ones. He's doing this new dance/jig type thing. Can't explain it, but it is pretty funny to watch. Okay, so as I was posting to another topic I realize that the sleep issues started before the probiotics...hm????I don't think it is related to the melatonin....his sleep disturbances may be related to die-off from the probiotics....you may want to try some activated charcoal....for my 6 yr old hyperness is usually related to gluten or yeast overgrowth....he had an infraction over the holidays and his sleep is disrupted as well...If the melatonin isn't working, you may need to take a break (one to twoweeks off the melatonin). Though, frankly, 4-5 hours of sleep at a stretch is actually pretty good. You might also look into Bach Flowers/Rescue Sleep. Its flower essences. Has worked wonders with our 5 year old. |
