Bacon Boy-Bad Diet Any advice is welcome! You know, if you wanted to try the GFCFSF diet, you're really at the perfect place to move in that direction. When you try to introduce a new food, just make it one that fits the diet. Even bacon is easily replaced with a safe brand (we use Applegate farms). As for actually getting new things in the diet, does first/then work with him? That's how we add new things w/DS - first he has to at least touch the new food, then he can have one that he already likes. It takes a long time to get a new food to the point where he's really eating it willingly, but we eventually get there. For the supplements, I'd definitely move to something more potent and with less sugar than Flintstones. There are a bunch out there designed for kids on the spectrum; just be careful about additives. We use the liquids from Brainchild Nutritionals - pricey, but potent, and liquids absorb well. Janie: Thanks for the great ideas. Honestly, we really weren't pushing the first/then protocol but we're back. We'd been letting his eat nearly whatever he wanted due to a fear that he'd lose too much weight due to his ADHD meds. (which happened once before.) Also, thanks for the supplment info. I'll look into that brand! will he eat something if you wrap it in or top it with bacon? You can then slowly wean him from the bacon. |
