ABA Therapy, C.A.R.D.Hi Erin, and welcome! I am also from Texas, but don't know about the particular ABA center you mentioned. I saw in your other post that you are in Lubbock. I would think that there are some ABA centers closer to you than Austin. Are there really none in Lubbock? Maybe I should move there because the Dallas area is full of them! :) Is Dallas/Fort Worth any closer for you? There are many ABA centers here that do parent training. Here is a list of ABA centers in Texas: http://rsaffran.tripod.com/schools.html#TX Here is an online group of parents in Texas that may have more advice for you: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Texas-Autism-Advocacy/ I also hope you'll sign up for my free newsletter, since I am from Texas, it often has local info: http://www.PositivelyAutism.com Nicole My son was diagnosed with autism in July. He is currently in a preschool program from 8-2:30 where he receives speech and OT services. He also does hippo therapy once a week, and private speech and OT once a week.My MIL called to talk to me about the Center for Autism and Related Disorders last week. A friend of hers was trained in ABA therapy by them and did it herself (with help from family and friends) at home. We have no ABA therapists to speak of in my town in Texas. There is an office in Austin. We were considering doing the workshop model where they would come and train us to work with our son. I am a school counselor so we could even stay in Austin in the summer and receive more ABA therapy there, too. Has anyone done this with C.A.R.D. or another center? I would really appreciate any advice or opinions. Thanks! |
