Almond Dream And Rice Dream Have Glutenhas a proven gluten allergy. Do you know if other brands have this as well?....now I need to double check the almond milk I buy for my DS We use almond breeze and I checked all the ingredients on the box and they're all supposed to be gluten free perhaps you could try that? Wow, thats crazy Thanks for this post...now what to feed???
LukesMommy, I would find one you are interested in (rice, almond, etc) and then call the company and just ask them if there's any gluten products (I would mention a few of those so they don't just think wheat) in the processing of their milk.
Thanks for the tip! My son is has a bunch of allergies (gluten, casein, nuts, legumes and soy) so it's been a real pain to find right foods for him.My DS loves his hemp milk - and coconut. We use the vanilla versions of both - the unsweetened vanilla for the hemp. My son refuses to drink hemp milk. But he likes rice milk and almond milk, especially the vanilla, which is good but contains some sugars. I would say to stay with whaever contains the least gluten, but add probiotics each time you drink. If they have so little gluten that the FDA lets them call it gluten free, then it is pretty low.
My son can't use the breeze because of other ingredients. (soy lecithin. He's very sensitive to soy products) The thing is, the Almond Dream doesn't say anything about any gluten products on the label, only if you call and press them on the issue will they mention the barley in the processing.

Just when I thought I was doing something right! Thanks for the info Anyone try hemp milk? Does this include the rice dream ice creams too???
You would have to call the company. The ice cream bars that are covered in chocolate (though they say "non-dairy") have milk in them (says so on the ingredient list). However, if it's made with Rice Dream, it would have gluten in it since Rice Dream has gluten.
I did call today, what they said was they used the barley enzyme, but that there was no protein in it. I still will not be using the products anymore, that just kida erks me a little. I can make my own ice cream. You would have to call the company. The ice cream bars that are covered in chocolate (though they say "non-dairy") have milk in them (says so on the ingredient list). However, if it's made with Rice Dream, it would have gluten in it since Rice Dream has gluten. I vote soymilk. You can buy different flavors at the store. That's what I had when I was on the GFCF diet. Have you heard of Silk? It's actually a brand. You can even get soy-nog under that brand.I reckon the soy-nog was okay. Moonman, he can't do soy. He can't do gluten, casein, soy, and he has fat malabsorption which seriously limits his ability to take in any oils. This is why none of the milk alternatives on the market were working for us. I did find that Pacific naturals has a hazelnut and almond milk that are gluten free. I emailed them and got a great response back about how they don't use any gluten in the processing of their milk, at any stage. AND, they told me how they keep from getting any cross-contaminants into their machinery and milk, their cleaning process, the whole nine yards. |
