| General multi-vitamin/mineral combo
If I wanted to start my sons (9yo - ADHD, 11yo - ASD) on a general multi-vitamin and mineral combo geared towards special needs children, what would you suggest? I haven't had either tested blood wise to see what they are deficient in, but can't I start them on a general vitamin/mineral regimen and see how it works besides a Flinstones vitamin??? We are using Brainchild Nutritionals brand. We also need to supplement with additional calcium, vitamins B6, C and D3, zinc, and magnesium.
Sometimes you have to try different brands, flavors, and forms until you find the one that is best and that your children will take easily. Start with a fraction of the dose and slowly work up.

Their vitamin/mineral supplements were developed for kids on the spectrum and come in a variety of forms, flavors, mixtures. Our only issue with these is they are fairly low in calcium and D3, so we add additional supplements to balance out that gap.We use the Brainchild too - it's great for DS. If you try it, I'd recommend ordering sample sizes to be sure you'll be able to get your kids to take it. Even with the flavoring, it has a vitaminy taste. DS takes the lemon lime flavored ones without a problem, and I don't mind the taste, but some people do.We do 3 a day w/ the Kirkman. You could do breakfast, dinner and bedtime (w/ a snack). The spacing between doses isn't all that important. The idea is to not overload the system all at one time. In most instances, vitamins/minerals shoud be taken with some food (regardless of brand). Thanks for the info ladies!
I have looked up Kirkman and Brainchild - they both look very good.
PhoenixRising - It's been a while since I looked at Kirkman, but how many times/day does your DC take it?
mbmom & Janie - the only thing I saw that I would have trouble with is giving this 3/day - both boys are in school all day so I'm not sure how I would give the 2nd dose. ???
We do 3 a day w/ the Kirkman. You could do breakfast, dinner and bedtime (w/ a snack).
They eat dinner at 5ish and go to bed at 8 - would that be too close together? And would the span between 6 a.m. (breakfast) and 5 p.m. be too long? I take it needs to be taken with food since you mentioned with a snack?
