Where to start - mineral def testing??Hi everyone - I am new here - just registered. My oldest, who will be 11 in 2 days, was diagnosed w/PDD-NOS many years ago - he was 3 at the time. He's very low on the spectrum, has been released from all services at school (speech, OT, and a FT aid) - he really has come a long way. I also have an almost 9 yr old w/ADHD and a baby girl who is 18 mths. I have just recently heard the buzz about possible vitamin and mineral deficiencies in children with Autism (and ADD/ADHD) - I've wondered why I haven't heard of this before w/all the therapy he has had! ANYWAY, I don't even know where to start - where do you get your child tested? Do I just start with his PCP and go from there? Can I just buy a recommended mineral and multi-vitamin geared towards autism or is that a ridiculous option? I'm VERY new with all this! Even though he has come soooooooo far and has outgrown a lot of his tendencies, I still think it would be worth looking in to - I also think it would benefit my 9 yo w/his concentration, etc. He's repeating 2nd grade currently. Sorry for the long story - I hope someone can give me some pointers and opinions on where to start! Thanks! Andrea Our PCP wouldn't run these or even refer us for these; but our developmental pedi ordered them without problem. Each child had basic metabolic panels, vitamin D, calcium, B series (6, 12 and folic acid), magnesium, iron, A and E.Thanks PhoenixRising! Both my boys are on Vyvanse - my 11 yo is on it for concentration. Their update appt for that is this week so I will ask her. If your developmental pediatrician is not open to testing, you can always find a good DAN doc and take your kids there. |
