Progress IEP this week

We have scheduled a progress IEP meeting that is going to take place on this Wed. Today we recieved his report card but no progress reports. I was hoping that I would have time to review his progress prior to the meeting. Shouldn't they supply this to me prior to meeting?

Also, a couple grades on his report card I don't agree with..he got a "C" (which is 20-79% and making average progress) my son spells great and EVERY spelling test he has come hom with he has got 100%. Should I bring this up or does it not make much difference since he is ese? Really makes me angry so many battles with the school...just want to chose my battles wisely

I believe that the wording in the federal law is something along the lines of providing the reports before the meeting.  Which some districts take to mean that they pass them out while you sit down, and then start the IEP meeting.  Then they proceed to read them to you and kill the next couple of hours and tire you out.  Then they spend 5-10 minutes telling you what services they will provide.  You then spend the next few hours trying to figure out exactly what services you lost.

On the other hand these folks probably aren't done with the reports until after the SpEd manager has advised them on what they need to say.  (I have seen reports with hand written notes "Revised per <SpEd manager>").

I am still working on suitable things to do, probably the best is to thank them for the reports when you finally get them and then ask for a minute a page to read the report before they start reading them to you.

This would be a time to choose which hills are worth dieing for.  And also to be careful about what you wish for.  I have not yet seen "C" grades matter to my kid.  Good grades can be used to exit kids.
Dad2Luke&Alan40126.9216898148In our district (not sure if this is a state law) if a child is working below grade level the highest grade they can receive is a C.  In other words my fourth-grader who is working at Kindergarten level can only receive a C in reading even if I think he is doing a fantastic job.  My third graders working on 1st grade spelling words can only get a C even if they got 100% on every spelling test the entire trimester.
