CARS testHi My son's annual IEP is coming up next week. The school is doing an assessment on him for the goals etc. Can they do the CARS test without parental input for his annual IEP?? Anybody have experience with this?? Thanks UV Not a lot of experience. But here's the publisher's web site and the Wiki entry. My recollection is that the test could be filled out by anyone with knowledge of the child. I have had similar tests filled out about my children by teachers when the district was interested in having them score well. Teachers are known to rate higher than parents in some assessments. So they do not need your input for this assessment. However, you do have to approve an assessment plan. If you did not approve then this is not legal. I do not know if the CARS can be used to develop goals. You'd have to contact a psychologist or similar who'd know. Our regional specialist suggested using CARS to assess social skills, so it sounds like it could be used for that type of goal. But I'd be suspicious that they wanted to use it to justify a less costly placement or less costly supports. |
