Any experience wtih AIT ?Hi, All. I'm new here and am looking to hear from anyone who has tried AIT or other listening programs with their kids. My DD is 11yo, and is (and has always been) really bothered by hypersensitive hearing. She deals well with any sound that she knows is coming (I think she steels herself for them), but has trouble with several sounds which are not forseeable -- dog barking ranks among her biggest fears. While I live in France, where AIT was born (the ENT doctor who invented it is French), it is not easy to find practioners here. I have found another American (I'm American...) who was just trained by the AIT foundation in the US, but I hestitate to start something without more feedback (and not just from AIT sites!). Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences. Debbie My son started this with an OT. At first it made him really loud but then it helped. He gets hyper when he's overloaded, so it may depend on your child. If they withdrawl, they may do that more at first until they adjust. See if you can try for a couple weeks and see if it begins to help. The $150 headphones are best but I got a pair for $60 which still met the basic requirements for home therapy. My problem now is getting the modulated music at home. Good luck! We decided to go ahead and try AIT in January. It is supposed to help with auditory processing and sensory issues like aversion to food. Since my dd is verbal, but often hard to understand, I am hoping her speech may become more clear. I will update once we get started! Sam has done this 2 times, however he was alot younger when we did it...about 4 yrs old maybe....we got some results the first time, then they faded, so we tried a "booster session" but it had no affect the 2nd time around. Keep in mind my child is more complex, so this isn't to say your child would not benefit from this TX....I have heard some really great success stories, mine just wasn't one of them. I say try it!!![]() |
