Help - what blood test screening should wWe have a 7 year old with AS, and we are looking to have some blood work done to screen for vitamin/mineral deficiencies and possible metal toxins. http://www.emedicine.com/PED/topic1780.htm - list of biomedical
tests sometimes ordered in connection with an autism evaluation.
Includes lab studies, imaging studies, genetic tests, and other tests. We are on a long waiting list to see a DAN doctor (we live in western PA, and there seems to be a shortage of such doctors in this area). We would like to get started to determine if there is anything we can do now to help our son. We were going to ask his PCP to run some tests, but we would like to have a better idea of exactly what substances to request them to test for. Does anyone have a good list of blood work items to request? Thanks! You'll might also want to check out my link collection here: http://www.autism-pdd.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=23226&am p;KW=biomedical We just did a test called the NutriEval by Genova Diagnostics. Very helpful! To test for metal toxicity you could do the urinary porphryns (sp) test from France. You can order it through the Great Plains lab. The results of this one is difficult to understand if you don't have help, though. Maybe if you ask on the biomedical boards you might get some help.
